Yes, it does smell like fish. I opened it up smelled it directly; I didnt notice any bad smell. Unraveled it... Oh my word! I was wondering if there was a dead fish in there or what! Other reviews say the smell goes away after airing it out, but I won't be keeping it to find out. Here's why...It is close to what I am looking for, but it is not perfect. I am sewing my own wedding dress and am looking for a hoopless petticoat for my dress. The diameter of the bottom of the skirt is okay. It is almost as wide as my 6 ring hoop skirt I have from civil war reenacting. However, the petticoat does not go the whole way to the floor, nor does the netting start at the waist. The lining starts at the waist, but the netting starts approximately 12 inches below that. Also, other reviews for these hoopless petticoats call the material tulle. It is netting. If one goes to JoAnn fabrics to buy the same material, they would need to buy netting not tulle. Tulle is very light weight while netting is heavier and stiffer. Prom dresses sold at Boscovs or JCPenny usually have one layer of netting then with another layer of tulle.Also, I think my dress has a better even shape with my hoop skirt than a hoopless petticoat. The layers of netting were just sticking out where I didn't want them to. With a hoop skirt it is a very even shape, but I will say that the one I bought at the civil war suttlers is way better quality than one I purchased on Amazon maybe 4-5 years ago.Also, if you are plus sized even just by a little bit, it may not work. The velcro stayed together until I kneeled down. Then the strings were a bit short. My waist is about 36", so if that helps anybody out.Design of hoopless petticoat is a layer of lining, then 2 short layers on the bottom, then 2 medium short layers, then 2 medium layers, then 2 full length layers going from 12" below the waist to the bottom of the petticoat. When one pulls each 2 layers apart, that's where one gains more poof.

This petticoat was great for adding volume to my wedding dress. I was afraid that it would be so full as to look clownish, but luckily it added just enough volume under my skirt to enhance my silhouette and pick up my dress so that I could avoid having to get a $250-$300 hem job. I was also worried that it would have a bad smell as some other reviewers mentioned, but mine did not smell at all. I will add photos once my dress comes back from alterations to show the effect, but I do highly recommend this petticoat for anyone wanting a full ballgown look without appearing gaudy. It comes very tightly packed in a plastic bag, so I recommend separating each layer after taking it out and letting it hang overnight, then steaming each layer carefully. The one small complaint I have is that I noticed a few brownish-black spots on a few of the layers as I was steaming them, but it isn't like anyone will see them or the petticoat itself underneath a full-length dress. I have a 43" inch waist so I can't use the velcro closure, but I can tie the drawstring just fine. Overall, I am quite pleased with this item.

I got this for doing Little Women the musical; I didn't want to have to wear a hoop skirt and this fluffs out enough that you can't tell it isn't. Some reviews mentioned that it isn't for larger waists, but let me tell ya, a couple small modifications make it easy to get on and off and work with a larger waist. We sewed in a bra extender on the back and it gave me about 4 more inches of room; plus the benefit that it stayed on better. Also - if you take the time when you get it to really pull apart each layer and let it just "stand" on it's own, it'll be massively poofy. I will say, it can be heavy, but with this much layering that should be expected. If you are wearing it a lot I recommend re-fluffing it after each wear; the back will slowly go flat when you sit on it a lot.

The tulle was great but it had a slip inside that could not go over the ring hoop because it's was to small

I was searching for a petticoat that had an inner lining as the last one I ordered didn't and it was horrible. This DOES have a lining to prevent the scratchy tool from touching your legs. It is not as soft and wonderful feeling as my dress inner lining but it is better than nothing. It is very fluffy. It does have a chemical smell when you open it but I put it outside after opening and the smell was totally gone in a couple hours. I fluffed each layer out and it is quite puffy. My dress is heavy so it probably won't end up being as large but is stiff and can stand up on its own so I know it'll definitely make a difference in my poof. I am a 14 normally and this almost fits but does not stay with the velcro alone so I will be sewing on an additional piece and tying it. I dont remember picking a size but I will double check and update if there is specific sizing.

I needed to return the petticoat and she was very responsive to my emails.I ordered this for my daughter's wedding dress, and though it was better than the 6 ring hoop skirt I ordered (which ballooned too much on the A dress), the dress was too thin and showed the bumpiness of the tulle. I was impressed by how full the petticoat was. The Velcro-ed waistband was meant for a thin person. I don't see how it could fit someone with over a. 30" waist without being very uncomfortable. At 27" it was a little tight, but not unduly so.All in all, it was a great petticoat but it didn't work for me. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from this seller again because of their quality product and great customer service.

Love it... It has enhanced broaden my dress Nicely.No complaining just thought to add that presently it seems not as wide as the picture shows but my thought is when I take that time to work on the mesh it will end up as wide as the picture.Ladies size 10 fit.Note: Mine upon opening has a mild fish scent to it.. Going to see if I could give it a hand wash in zero/softener to remove the scent.Look forward to the day. And thank you for this wire free petticoat. Will also use for my ball gowns for up coming events..
