Purchased this a while ago and now the sensor won't connect to the display unit. fresh batteries in both. what do i do?

first turn on the sensor and then turn on the display unit. read the manual. You can download the manual through the protimeter homepage.

What is the charge looking plug in the side for?

It is some type of port, not sure what specific type of port. My best guess is to make future software updates or if the unit ever needs to be serviced it provides a convenient way for the manufacturer to diagnose any issues. This moisture meter takes batteries so it is not for charging.
