does this produce a lot of heat using the cooler?

No, I used it all summer right next to my bed and never felt heat from it. Maybe if you put your hand right next to the blower it's slightly warm, maybe.

Why does it have computer hardware requirements? Is there a trojan horse in it?

Runs on a micro usb from a standard 5v charger. However, when I plugged it into my laptop I got a screenshot telling me to "Drink More Coke!" :)

Can the temperature be adjusted?

has 3 settings if i recall for it. a cool, cold, and hot. they really don't work to well as the can hardly got cold after being in it all day. the heat so-so but its small so only thing fitting in that is a styrofoam cup which id more worry on it doing something to the cup then the liquid
