Klein CL1000 400A AC Clamp Meter

Looks, same settings and feels like the UEI Meters.I haven't tried the leads to see if they're interchangeable yet. Haven't used all the features but It works for testing continuity and higher voltages. The quality of the meter is well built.

Dc voltage fluctuated wildly . Returned it and bought a Fluke. If you can't trust your meter you don't have a solid foundation for troubleshooting.

I thought this was going to also give me DC amps thru the "hoop" ,it only does DC in micro amps thru the probe so you cant clip it over the battery wire on your truck and see how many amps your starters drawing.The description is not real clear on that. Other than that it seems pretty well made it has all the features of the cheap craftsman brand its replacing that would no longer zero out. It does come with a case and alligator clip adaptors.

Purchased this as a first "all in one" multimeter for my son who is just starting his tech training. Solid and has all the functions needed. Price is low enough that if he breaks or loses it there is not as much anguish.

These are an extremely versatile meter. One of the few I find that can check capacitors and check amperage. A great buy for the price. Batteries do not last as long as my flukes with 9v but still the best buy for the money.

I love this meter, it has everything I need. The magnet on the back is great and having the back light is a nice touch. I'm a field service tech and this is a great addition to my tool case.

Love this meter. I do landscape lighting and This thing has been dragged through mud, dirt, got wet and been dropped from the roof of a second story house. It is reliable, tough and has great battery life even if you use the back light a lot (which I do).

I had an issue getting the tool to turn on after having it for several months. I opened the unit up and found corrosion and fixed it. Here's what i found and how I fixed it. First an explanation of what caused the corrosion; no soldered wires are used between the batteries and circuitry. The tool depends on tension between the circuit board and two springy pieces of metal to transfer battery power to the circuit board. The two contacts on the circuit board side are gold-plated but the springy metal is not. Mating two dissimilar metals invites 'galvanic corrosion.' You can read about that here [...]. Visually you will see the same corrosion you see when you leave batteries in a device too long -- but you won't see with this galvanic corrosion problem unless you open the case up.I cleaned the corrosion off the contacts and the unit worked fine. HOWEVER, to avoid this problem in the future, I mitigated the problem of dissimilar metals by applying a layer of solder to the gold plated contacts.One note, if you are inclined to open your unit up to do this, you need to know there is a tiny hidden screw beneath the silver label at the top of the tool. See photo. I cut mine with an exact knife to expose it. Also, make sure you remember from which holes you removed each of the larger black screws because they are different lengths.
