can I cut 16 gage stainless steel with this tool?

I am not sure because have no clue how thick 16 gauge steel is but i bought and used it on duct work to cut access holes for duct cleaning. Much of the duct work i cut was very old and thick and never i had a problem. I highly recommend you use a drill with an actual electric plug. Cordless drills didnt work well for me.

Can I cut through wood with this?

Your bit only comes through about 1/4-5/16. I would be afraid you may have a hard time. I think it would cut wood ok just not deep. Sheet metal is very thin 21 gauge

Can it cut circles in 20 gauge stainless steel?

According to Malco website, this item is rated to cut up to a 20 gauge maximum in GALVENIZED metal. I am not sure if stainless would be considered a harder substance. Since 20 gauge is the maximum, I would use this product very slowly and carefully while attempting to cut. I would also have additional bits on hand in case it should break in the middle of a project.

How well does it cut sheet plastic?

I've never cut plastic with mine, but I have cut hundreds and hundreds of holes in sheet metal. My guess is that it would work fine in plastic IF you take your time and let the bit do the cutting. Pressing too hard or attempting to force the bit might cause the plastic to get hot ant melt against the bit. That would be a mess.

Terrible, soft alloy! I don’t believe it will last long. Didn’t finish the first cut before drill bit broke! Waste of money! Poor product!

The right tool for the job

I am a DIY Handyman, I prefer to tackle most jobs aroung the house myself and try to research the proper tools for the job so I'm prepared. I purchased this and a Rigid right angle drill head for my Ryobi One+ JobPlus multitool, so I could cut 6" circles between the joists of my house into in my existing HVAC trunk lines. I had enough room height wise with 10" joists to fit this tool and a right angle drill. Once I got a hang of it, the tool worked perfectly. I cut 4 holes in a matter of minutes, and didn't break any bits. The instructions state to hand tighten the center pin lock nut, I would recommend using more than you hands to tighten it as I had it come out of adjustment on my first attempt. Angling the tool back slightly helped to get a good cut going.
