First, let me say that I have a love/hate relationship with this avocado keeper. I do a lot of Mexican cooking, so having an avocado keeper that is effective is an absolute must. As far as it keeping the leftover half of an avocado fresh, I have truly found none that are better, and I think I have tried them all! When I am done cutting apart the avocado, I simply generously squirt lemon or lime juice on the exposed avocado flesh and the pit to make sure all surfaces are covered, I lay it cut side down on the Avo Saver, I stretch the silicone strap firmly over the avocado and I secure it and put it in the fridge. If you use it the next day, it will be completely fresh. If it is more than a day or two, you will likely have a little discoloration that will not affect the flavor, but it will not look as nice. So I just cut a thin sliver off to remove the discoloration. But the rest of the avocado will be beautifully fresh and appealing. I have kept the leftover half for up to a week this way.Now for the love/hate issue and the reason I could not rate this higher. I have had 4 of these so far over the past couple of years and I have had the exact same problem with each and every one. The silicone strap tears where there is stress from attaching it. It will eventually start to tear (as seen in the picture below of my most recent one) and will ultimately separate, making the keeper unusable. This is very unfortunate, because the design of this product can't be beat. I have saved so much money by being able to effectively save the half that otherwise would have gone bad before I was able to use it. Because I can't get along without something to keep my avocados fresh, I really have no choice but to keep buying replacements when they break. For this reason I am always on the lookout for them at a popular local discount store, but I often can't find them. So I was happy to see that they are now offered in a two pack at a better price and I just ordered a set. I know the one I am using now, which I started using several months ago (flaw pictured below) will soon tear through and be rendered useless. So now I am all set with backups!Bottom line is that the design of this is fantastic, the best I have found. I really wanted to rate this higher, because of that, but I couldn't because it fails rather quickly for something that is used often. If they could fix the vulnerability of the strap, this would definitely be a 5 star product! I rely heavily on customer reviews when I go to purchase an item, and I know others do, as well. I hope you have found the information I have provided to be helpful.

July 31, 2011 update: I've had this thing for over a year and a half, and it's still in one piece. I wash it several times a week on the top shelf of the dishwasher and store it carefully in the utensil drawer, and it has held up. I've even given up using the sandwich bag; the second half of the avocado will keep up to three days, unless you start out with a superripe one.This item currently sells for $3.95 plus qualifies for the super saver shipping and 4 for 3 features as well. I wasn't sure it would retard the browning of an avocado but felt adventurous because we routinely eat only half of one. So, I placed the half with the seed into the container and strapped it down. Because I really didn't think it would work, I also placed the entire thing, avocado and contraption, within a zip lock sandwich bag. Well, two days later, when I opened it, the avocado was only slightly brown and looked as if it had only been in the frig for two hours versus two days; I know what it would have looked like without the saver. I'm taking a star off because the device is made of thin plastic, and the strap is flimsy as well. I don't expect it to last very long unless I handle it carefully. It does go on the top shelf of the dishwasher and washes well.January 24, 2012 update: Here we are two years later, and this utensil has held up like a champ. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it today, either in the strap breaking, or discoloration or cracking of the plastic, which are the things I thought would happen.January 21, 2013 update: This item is showing wear now in a couple of ways: (1) one of the notches on the belt is broken, probably because I have been pulling it too strongly across the avocado half; and (2) the face has become stained from avocado contact, which I do not understand because I wipe it after every use and it goes into the dishwasher. The saver is still functional at this point.

My wife loves avocados but can never finish a whole one. We tried so many gadgets but this one works the best as it prevents air from being in constant contact with the meat of the fruit. So nice to have finally found a solution that works and is cost-effective.Since they come in a package of two, gift one of them to a fellow avocado lover. They'll thank you for it!

It really works!I still think it looks weird but I love it. I hate it when I only want to use a half of avocado. I would douse it with copious amount of lemon juice, cover it with plastic wrap with as little amount of air between the meat and plastic wrap. I’ve honestly tried everything to keep that beautiful gem from turning brown and getting yucky. But I thought it wasn’t meant to be. I figured it was either use it or lose it. But not anymore. I’m unsure as to how long it will actually keep the avocado edible since it’s usually eaten within a day but I would think it would preserve it at least a couple of days refrigerated.

I came across this gadget on one of those FB “articles” that are really meant to get you to buy things. It was compared with three other similar gadgets, but got the highest rating of 4.5 out of 5. So I tried it. And it works. This was after a full 24 hours in the pic. Any brown was already there. The rest of the avocado remained green. Coolio.
