I ended up not needing this for the purpose I bought it so I can't speak to it's durability. It seemed to be well made though.

Fits a 5/8" Pipe Just Right
I used this fitting to connect a new gas burner in my fireplace. The 1/2" fitting that came with the new burner kit, was too small for the black pipe coming out of the wall. I measured the outside diameter at 5/8" and went to the local plumbing supply place. An older gentleman informed me that he had no idea how to help me because there is no pipe size between 1/2" and 5/8". And he said it in a way that made me feel bad for even asking. So I went home, looked on-line and found this. It came today and it fits just right. I did not have problems with it being soft as another reviewer indicated. It's quite sturdy and the fit was just about perfect. I'm very happy with my purchase.

all was good, added pipe dopy
Overly soft brass - screwed it onto black pipe elbow's flare 5/8 OD, and it fit, but when I tried to gently make it tight (with appriate gas pipe dope) it peeled off a thread of brass. I decided I must have made a mistake, bought another, finger tight fit it, all was good, added pipe dopy, finger tight, put wrench on to turn, and that one peeled off a spiral as well. Too it to shop, fit a 1/2" black pipe cap on the other end, made hand tight, applied about 10 footpounds of torgue (trivially light if you understand foot pounds) and the cap compressed the male end of it. In other words, this is great, but is "jello soft" brass, and cannot withstand any torque or compression, making it not safe for anywhere near the tightness needed for a gas line. Just warning for safety, as if I had not noticed there'd be a hairline crack leaking gas that I could have missed if I did not do a proper bubble test afterwards, for example. I'm EPA certified HVAC, am not overtorqueing at all, but this is hardly firmer than a bar of soap.

Thank you.

Does not fit. Leaking all over
Quite strange. My pipe is just a little bigger than 1/2". But this 5/8" turns out to be too big.

Not the size listed. BEWARE
Size is not correct. I ordered 6 of these needing a 1/2" NPT male and a 5/8" female only to receive what is closer to a 5/8" male and a 3/4" female. Much, Much bigger than I need for my application.

Inaccurate description!
Female threading is NOT for 5/8” OD pipe as described
