Multi room magic
The media could not be loaded. Kindly given to me to review this is a portable Bluetooth speaker that can also tap into streaming services thanks to it's built in ability to log onto WiFi networks. The WS300 is the larger sibling to the smaller WS150 and it shares many of the same looks. Along the top are control buttons, on the back is the power switch, aux in, USB in for charging the speaker and a USB out for using the speaker to charge your gadgets. The speaker can be used as a Bluetooth speaker, streaming music directly from your mobile, but to really get the most of this you want to set it up on WiFi.Setup is made very easy thanks to the August app. Note that if you have a problem connecting the speaker to your WiFi network it might be because you phone is connected on the 5G WiFi band and the speaker can only connect via the 2.4G WiFi band.Within the app you can see the current compatible streaming services, at the time of review that includes Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and the ability to stream from your mobile, it doesn't currently support include Amazon Music or Apple Music. Hopefully additional services can be added as the product matures.Although it is portable (it has a battery so doesn't need to be plugged in all the time) the large size makes this best suited to just moving around your home or office.Sound quality is very good, offering a great room filling sound, good volume, decent bass and very little distortion. A single unit is more than enough for the average room size but you can also have a second unit and set one as the left speaker and one as the right speaker, all without having to connect them with wires. If streaming over WiFi you don't need to worry about your device being close to the speaker, you don't even need to be in the same room, you just need to be connected to your home network and you can control the speaker. There is an additional advantage to being a WiFi speaker, if you have a second WS300 or the portable WS150 you can create a multi speaker setup. The speakers can either play different music or all play the same music and this is all controlled via the app.The system works brilliantly, with music in sync across all speakers. You still have control of the individual speaker volumes, handy if you want to create a party area and then a more chilled area with lower volume music. The speakers can also be unpaired and used individually, although note that if you use a paid service such as Spotify you'll need 1 paid account for each speaker, so 3 speakers needs 3 accounts to listen to 3 different tracks. When the speakers are linked they act as 1 speaker so only a single Spotify account is required. The WS300 is a cracking speaker by itself, with the advantage of being the start of a multi room system for far less than the better known brands. If you're after something a little more portable that can also be used in a multi speaker setup check out the smaller August WS150 .

Clear, tight sound; bass could be better.
Nice size, and reasonably inconspicuous. Sound quality quite good, although lacking bass. I use with Echo Dot by wire, and as a Bluetooth speaker for my phone. Sound is significantly better than the Dot, but bass is not as good as the Echo. Could not get NFC to work, but both WiFi and Bluetooth were easy to set up. I only have 1, so I cannot comment on multiple speaker configurations; in order to fill a decent-sized room, you will want more than 1. Does NOT compete with the established 'big boy' in the market (starts and ends with S), and if you like the boomy sound of some other brands, this 1 is not for you. That said, it is not 'tinny' or weak, and sound is quite 'clean', even at its higher volumes. (I did not max it out, because it would be too much for the small room I have it in.) Flexibility is its key asset; easy to connect and then change connection to something else, and back, again. Instructions aren't much, but you don't NEED much. 'Buttons' on the top may fool you - the controls are not visually obvious. I liked that, though: some subtlety is nice.

Super portable little speaker for music where you want it.
This review is for the August WS300 Multiroom Wireless Speaker. I have now been using this for about a month. I am using it with iTunes running on an older Dell Laptop with Windows 10. Therefore I am using the speaker with Airplay (not Bluetooth). I used the WPS button on the speaker and the WPS button on my router to connect the speaker to my wireless router. That was it. I use the speaker outside on my back deck and wanted a very portable speaker for listening to music out there. As some reviewers have mentioned, it does not have a lot of bass, but it's completely adequate for just having some music out on the deck while you're having your favorite beverage. The sound is surprisingly good. I especially like being able to control the volume, pause music, and navigate (forward and backward) through playlists, all done at the speaker. After each use, I plug it into a usb supply to recharge the batteries so it's ready to go next time. This little speaker (10x4x3 inches) works great and I am completely happy with it.

Three Stars
Speaker sounds good but the app. is pretty bad. And multiroom wifi function doesn't work.

Great speaker for a large living room if you don't require a lot of noise
Excellent bluetooth speaker. Size does matter. I have several smaller blue tooth speakers and while they are more portable, none sound as good as this. We use it to play a lot of smooth jazz, new age, Norah Jones, so there's no "heavy lifting" required, but it does always sound good. The big volume buttons are great when you are outside (this is portable, but I would say it's really more "luggable").I have not yet played around with any of the wifi capabilities but I expect we will get the same unit for other parts of the house.Currently it's hooked up an an Echo unit.

Nice idea. Poor performance.
Decent speakers. I bought 2 of these based on their stereo claimed abilities, to use with an IPhone 7 running iOS 10. Verdict: Either the August App is awful or the speakers ability to be connected is - the app's individual connections to one or the other speakers randomly disappears. Playback is sporadically one speaker or both. They supposedly can be synced together - that never stays set. Trying to use the "WPS" button to reconnect a speaker is a Las Vegas experiment - sometimes you'll year a voice response, sometimes not - and don't press twice in frustration or you may hear the voice notice that the device is being factory reset. NOT worth the management time or effort. An elegant idea clumsily executed. Too bad.

Alles passt.
