Great gift choice!
We got this toy when my son was just 8 months. He fell in love with it almost immediately and played with it pretty steadily (I rotate his toys monthly/bi-monthly but this was always such a favorite it almost never got put away) until he was 3 years old. Even now at 3 1/2 we still have not given it away because he still occasionally likes to play with it and every time I broach the subject he does not want to part with it.In the last three years this toy has seen A LOT of daily use, not just from my son but visiting children as well. And it is still going strong! The only thing really "wrong" with it after all this time and use is that some of the blue paint is worn off on the engine part of the train. The music/sound parts still play clearly, it still moves fine, nothing is cracked or broken on the train, and the animals are still all intact and look practically new. My son has even stood inside the engine part more times then I can remember and it did not break or damage the ability for the train to play a song when the giraffe is placed inside it. In my opinion this toy is DURABLE. And it does not eat a lot of batteries because it shuts itself off (we use rechargables and have changed them 4-5 times since we've had it).Out of all the toys my son has had in the past three years, this is probably my favorite because it is such a good bargain! It lasts so long and is played with so long! Toys are so expensive in general nowadays that I love the ones that I really feel were worth the money I spent, and this is one of those toys!I would choose this as a great first birthday present for any child! But the animals could be played with as soon as child can sit up and pick up a toy with a little weight, the train moving is a good incentive for new crawlers and walkers to chase it, and the songs seem to be catchy and enjoyed by 1-2 year-olds a lot. The animals are colorful and fun to look at for babies, the monkey is a rattle, they click when their legs and heads are moved, and parts like the elephant's ears are fun for babies to chew on. The train has 'leaves' that children can spin, a blunt 'hook' to attach the two pieces together, a bird on a small spring, the monkey tail hooks onto the bar at the back, and the steam pipe makes the animal noises. So it has some fine motor skill-building fun built into it as well as the movement and fun songs. The three little 'compartments' for the animals could easily be used to introduce sorting and placing objects in and taking objects out if you want to extend the learning abilities of the toy (not to mention the colors and shapes inherent in the toy). The bottom line is I have yet to see a toddler who was not engaged by this toy as soon as they heard and saw it moving across a room!As a parent I did not find it over-loud or too quiet (too-quiet meaning it doesn't attract the child's attention). My husband found it loud at first but adjusted quickly to it, especially when compared to some other toys my son has received. The speaker is a circle on the front of the train engine and it would not be difficult to cover it with a round sticker to mute the music a little if that was a concern. It has an off-switch (you don't realize how important that can be until you get a musical/noisy toy without one!) that is easy to reach and activate. There is an off-switch for the movement part as well. And finally, the train will move on regular carpet as well as hard floors.Overall I'd say this is a good bet for a toy a toddler would enjoy and play with a lot.

Great Toy Worth Every Penny!
This toy is one of those that will get played with ALOT and be worth the money you spent on it. Or will make a great gift! My son is 1 and we bought this for his birthday. We also bought the zebra that attaches to the end of the train. We dont buy alot of toys because they just dont get played with and we cannot waste our money but this is one toy we spurged on for him and he loves it. This is a toy that can be played with for many years and he will not outgrow quickly. Great toy! THANKS FISHER PRICE! quality, durable, safe (hopefully no recalls like alot of other companies have) I hope to get the other two attachements for christmas. (I think there are 3 in all)I bet we see these toys being passed around for the next 5 to 10 years. Just like the other 2 fisher price toys that he is currently playing with that were my daughters 15 years ago!

The toy is great, and loved
The toy is great, and loved, but when this item was received from this seller, it was dirty and there was a filthy magic eraser left in the box. Ew.

Well-built and fun toy with one major annoyance
This is a cute and well-built toy train for little ones that certainly will kindle interest in learning about animals. Plastics appear durable and well-made, though the packaging did rub off some of the finish in a couple of places. The one big detraction (preventing a 5-star rating) is the music it plays, which could easily drive a sane person completely insane quite quickly. When you push the engine's smokestack, a song will play, sung apparently by a teenage girl that sounds distinctly like Miley Cyrus. The voice is grating and annoying enough, but the song lyrics take the cake for "dumbed down". Here is a sample: "Come on board the animal train! Come ON everyone! Learning about animals is REALLY lots of fun!". Though Fisher-Price could have spent more time polishing off the music, the overall concept is entertaining and educational.

Not engaging
I purchased this toy for my six month old based upon the great reviews it received. My son who is now 9 months still has no desire to play with this toy. At first, he liked taking the animals off the train and putting them in his mouth but to be honest I have found that this toy has to be put away until he is more around 18 months. Then maybe he will like moving the train around the room but I doubt it. My son is more of an auditory and tactile person than visual. It was not worth the expense. The best toy out there are the rings that hard plastic rings that can link together and that are easy to carry with him and the soft toys he can put in his mouth. He plays more with my dogs Ty Dolls (beanie babies) because they have more texture varities to them than even the soft teethers for baby do. I hope this helps.

defective
I was really excited to get the Fisher-Price Amazing animals sing and go choo choo for my grandson. Now that he is old enough to enjoy it, I find out it doesn't move or play the songs. I bought it new from amazon but kept it for a gift. I am disappointed considering how well its rated and the cost.

Really cute toy
My 2 year old still loves this toy. She has played with it since she was 9 months old. It is a very cute toy and seems very durable. The animals are really cute as well and their legs click as they move them. A very young baby would enjoy just holding the animals and moving their legs. It is very easy to operate and comes with settings that control whether it moves forward or stays in one place. It is very easy for a young child to start as they just push down on the the smoke stack (I guess that is what it is called). It has a cute All Aboard song it plays as it moves forward. It has other songs too for when it is in the non moving mode. It seems a little on the pricey side for what it is, but I think it has been worth it since she continues to play and enjoy it.

Fisher Price Amazing Animals Train
I ordered this item for my grandson after it was recommended by a friend. The price seemed to vary so much that I wondered if there were two different products. I found the best price on Amazon and ordered the toy one evening.Almost exactly 48 hours later it arrived, very well packed. (Free delivery) I was amazed how quickly it was delivered and on inspecting it I was very impressed with the quality of the toy. We did not take it out of its box until we gave it to my grandson at christmas. I think it is a fantastic toy: there are lots of moving parts on the giraffe and elephant, all of which make a different noise. Lots of moving parts on the train, and it moves along playing tunes. The knobs on the train which make it move are easy for a child to operate. It also has lots of bits that a child can safely put in his mouth at the teething stage!!Smashing toy, and very good service from Amazon despite the horrible weather. I went on to order quite a few christmas presents from Amazon.

An amazing Train!
This was bought for Christmas for my little girl (10 months old) by her grandparents and has been the most used and loved present.Firstly it's bright colours got my daughter drawn to it straight away. The buttons are easy to press and the animals and train are sturdy and strong. When the train first moved my daughter got so excited and continues to do so now. The songs are catchy and my daughter instantly recognises them and tries to sing along.Overall a great buy - does what it says on the box - an amazing train that really delights!
