Not as Good as I Originally Thought
Written by my teenaged son, approved by me:The first three "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books were great fun to read. They weren't too sad, but not too bright and cheerful, either. They were a brilliant satire on modern suburban life, and coupled with a multitude of whacky situations, they were an instant hit. But this book doesn't fit the mold. Especially not after it seriously damaged the hopes and dreams of everyone who was looking forward to it... me included.Story: 8/10 - Unlike other books in this series, which at least had some bright spots for our hero, and were exceptionally funny, this is not - its story, which is about Greg's summer vacation, does not favor our hero in the least, and puts him through trial after trial while crushing his spirit, his friendships, and his love life; Trista's rejection was almost brutal!Humor: 8/10 - This book mostly favors a heavy dose of schadenfreude, plenty of physical humor, and a hint of irony, whereas most other books in the series favored some schadenfreude, some irony, and some physical humor, not throwing the balance out of whack for any of them. Especially sad is the number of deaths in the book - and they aren't even funny.Characters: 8/10 - This book barely introduces any new characters, and downplays the roles of many significant ones (Holly is practically nonexistant, and Fregley barely appears at all). Instead, it focuses on dumping everything on the one main hero, Greg, which is sad, because he could have used some more friends.Entertainment: 8/10 - This book will, admittedly, make you want to read it over and over again, but it still lacks things which made the other books great. Shame, really.Overall: 32/40 - This review, frankly, would have been much higher if the author had increased Trista's role, had Rodrick go on a band tour, and added in some bright spots for Greg instead of making him even more miserable. But it didn't, and that's that.

My son loves to read now!
When my son started the 2nd grade he hated having to read and saw it as nothing more than a chore and it was a fight to get him to do it. When seeing the books they were reading, I could completely understand why. I made various attempts to show him reading was fun and still it was just a chore to him and he'd constantly act like he couldn't read as well as he could to get out of having to read... until I started buying him the Diary of a wimpy kid series. He now has a greater love for reading and understanding that it can be fun and enjoyable. He went from complaining every time he had to read for class to being happy to do so and reads proficiently above grade level. He also likes discussing the books with me and telling me about what is happening. He is always very eager to get the next book in the series (and I have found amazon to have great prices on them) and has a very great sense of accomplishment when he finishes each book. The fact that this series has given my son joy in reading has been invaluable.

Great capture on the facial expressions
Probably best for ages 10 and up, and funny enough for adults to appreciate

When They're Happy, So am I...
Thanks for allowing me to say a few words about Amazon and the things I order. Since I live at a distance from grandchildren and great grandchildren, when they want something "from Mama Len's Store" they give me a call. They have to tell me (1) Name of the book, (2) Where they learned about it (3) If it's a series... (*the same goes for dvds). One of the things I love about Amazon is that I can go look for what the kids (or my adult kids for that matter) have mentioned they'd like to have and put it in my basket. Then I work through that and never have to worry about what to get anyone. It works well for me, and Amazon has never deleted my basket items like so many other webstores do.My 8 year old grandson LOVES the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. Thanks to them being color coordinated I was able to keep the books in sequence and he only received one of each. The down side is that he reads them in an evening! ha. He's now waiting for the movie...I've been ordering from Amazon about 4 or 5 years with this little system and I have yet to be disappointed. That bodes well in today's environment and rude store clerks!!Sincerely,The MammaTexas

Kid Appropriate Humor
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series is actually one of my favorite kids collection that I, myself, find funny. I don't always find myself laughing out loud when reading books together with my son. The humor is this particular book is appropriate for a young audience and it's cute. It doesn't have any hardcore violence or foul language like a lot of books out there. My son has read the series, especially this book and the first one, over and over. The illustrations are too funny too.If you have read the first one, then I think that it is definitely worth reading the rest in the series, but even if you read them solo they are good. The vocabulary is not too difficult. My son has been reading the book series since he was five, but I'd say they are easiest for maybe a 4th or 5th grader to understand the most. There is also a movie version of this book that my family has watched a number of times and like as well.

Another great installment
My daughter has read all of the Wimpy kid books. She finds them really entertaining. She has been reading them since she was 7 or 8 and still asks for anything new that comes out at 14!They’re great stories that really engage children no matter what their age, which is great - anything to keep them reading. The book is well made and will be passed down to her little brothers in the coming years. I’m sure they will get just as much joy out of these books as she did. Definitely worth the money

This book was Great! One of my favorite diary of a wimpy kid books is this one. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the kindle version had several missing sentences or words. I was slightly dissapponted about ths
