For the price this kit meets expectations. It will work well for its designed purpose, however if you are planning on using it many many times, I would recommend purchasing extra scalpels and a reusable handle, as it comes with one that does not have a replaceable blade. The tools themselves or of decent quality and I feel with proper handling and storage they will last a long time. I am especially impressed by the heft of the bone snip. The storage wrap is a little tedious to fold up as you must put the tools in in a specific way for it to fold up nicely but it's not an issue for me since I will be storing them in a plastic box.

I use this for my field pack for my hunting dogs and my livestock and is always handy in my truck. Pretty decent quality for the price. I originally got this to castrate roosters, but never attempted it.

Edited 7/20/18. Horrible equipment. The Rib spreaders are so cheap and flimsy they were more of a nuisance than a help. The only thing of quality were the heavy cutters, scissors and tweezers. We threw away the rest.Original post :the tools are not the best quality, but are usable. the reason for such a low review is the surgical knife. It is not sharp at all, I could safely run my finger across it and it felt like an old dull pocket knife. I don't have time to return this and wait for another. I will find a blade somewhere else and use the other tools in this bag.These tools are not for the serious bird keeper.

No directions, but will be using this tomorrow live after practicing on dead roosters. Critical instruments are sharp.

I paid more to get junk. The essential tools for caponizing are so bad that they are useless. The rib spreader was so poorly made you could not even spread the ribs with it. You do not get a real scalpel but a cheap one piece non sharp knife. Some of the tools were serviceable like the scoop and many extra tools that aren't even used to caponize. All in all, I wish I would have bought the standard kit used to caponize.
