Q: Why is there plastic between the lid ??? I can’t even get the jar open to use it the first time!

I’m not sure why you can’t open it I didn’t have any issues at all. It opened very easily.

You can make your own cold brew at home.

Q: Can I put it in the sun to make sun tea?

Sure, you can place tea bags in water in this jar to make sun tea. I just remove the center strainer which is intended for ice coffee.
