Q: How can I open bottom while pressing down and rotating bottom cyinder? It won't budge and I can't open/rotate the bottom.

It’s a great little mirror. It is easiest to open the bottom section while the top section is closed. To open the bottom section, put a thumb on the hinge between the top two pieces (on the back), and under the hinge is a little ledge or thumb hold for the bottom piece, put your other thumb on it and pull it open. It has kind of a snap close and open like a compact or a clam shell item. It’s easy once you get used to it.

Q: How do you open the bottom compartment to put the batteries in

There's a short explanation as to how to open the battery compartment, enclosed in the box, under the mirror. Turn the bottom plate counterclockwise and it was fairly easy. I think when they made this bottom piece, there's a very simple thing they could have done to make it even easier. There's 3 little raised parts, like little feet for the mirror to set on a table and they could have made them a little thicker. That way your hand/fingers have something to grip when you turn it to open it.

Yes, both mirrors are lighted. The lower lights first when the switch is halfway and the top lights when the switch is all the way. I hope my reply isn't too confusing.
