Works great!
It took longer to carry the package inside and open than it did to replace the old one. Easy installation and works perfectly. No need to go to repair shop or buy a new unit.

Easy to install
This fit my Craftsman straight shaft trimmer with no issue. The gearbox was easy to install with only a screwdriver and I was back in business in no time! The new one spins more freely than the old one and the bump feed works nice and smoothly. Good buy.

Here are few recomendations on installing
This is an OEM item and is an exact fit. Here are my comments on how to make your installation easier1: The screw holes for the included screws are not tapped, so run them through the holes once before you install it, this will make tightening it down a little easier later. All you need is a large flat-blade screwdriver.2. open up the gear housing before installing, and spread the grease over the gears. even though it's packed with grease, there seems to be no grease on the gears. once it warms up the grease will flow around the gears, but there is no reason for the gears to be dry for the first run.3. when you re-assemble the case, do not tighten the case screws down all the way just yet. this will allow you to slip the gear housing over the shaft easier.4, Put the gear housing on the shaft with the small screw hole aligned with the hole in the shaft. it is highly likely the square drive shaft doesn't fit into the square hole in the case right away, so turn the trimmer head while wiggling it around a bit until it drops in.5. align the small screw hole with the hole in the shaft, put in the small screw first so the gear housing won't turn while tightening the other screws. Then tighten down the remaining screws and add the two additional housing screws and tighten them down.6. double check all the screws are tight and go cut some weeds :)I hope this is helpful.

Fits Craftsman 4 stroke, converted from single use string, easy install
Ordered this bump head for a Craftsman 4 stroke, converted from single use string, mounting hole on wrong side but no big deal, mounting bolt does not have to go through shaft and holds firmly, hole not threaded but meant that way for better holding (self tapping screw), added extra grease in gear box although reasonably packed, added blue Loctite to screws, installs easy and works well. I did added precautions because I am picky. Overall, good unit for the money spent. Total - 20 minute install with all work done.20 winds on the top and 20 winds on the bottom with .080 line fits nicely. To make the unit properly expel the line when tapped, use some silicone grease on the shaft and contact areas but not excessive or the cut grass will bung it up.
