Chinese Embroidery: An Illustrated Stitch Guide

Great
The book is great quality, soft bound and colors look amazing. It's not an extensive "how to" embroider but it's great as a beginner's reference. There are some projects that she teaches that are simple, images are helpful.

Very Comprehensive
The Chinese (and all of Asia) have a long tradition of embroidery and this book looks at the many facets of Chinese embroidery. There are some beautiful photos and a good range projects at all levels. Ironically though, a lot of it looked like very familiar to "Western" embroidery techniques. It makes me realize how much cross pollination happens without our awareness of it. A good lesson in humility.

Beautiful reading
As far as the projects go in the book, I think maybe only a few are approachable unless you are an expert. I would not consider this a how to bookOtherwise the history of Chinese embroidery is fascinating and I really enjoyed reading about the background of the different dynasties. Some people have reviewed saying that the author writes in confusing English but this really isn't the case--the writing is beautiful and high level, its been translated from Mandarin perhaps which is very formal and perhaps this is strange for readers.Overall I am glad I have it in my library.

Great detailed information and pictures
Well written with many close up pictures of various stitches and more pictures showing them in context of the completed example. The explanation of the history of embroidery in China over time and within region is helpful. One of few sources with some information on double sided embroidery, which looks completed on each side even when the sides have different colors and subjects.

Great addition to an Embroidery Library
I know..I decided I am addicted to embroidery books and this one is just perfect to add to my knowledge of the subject.I go over and over my books so I can learn more about the techniques...this book has quite a bit of background history of Chinese embroidery but I found it fascinating the way the art has progressed through the centuries... Projects are nice but some just are not my taste while others are beautiful. I am finding I can intertwine all the learning from differentauthors and enhance my own skills to suit me...

Intriguing
This is a beautiful book that presents some challenging projects. Worth having just for the illustrations but the information on embroidery was superb.

Easy and simple
I don't do much embroidery such as this as I usually find it very difficult. This book appears to show each step in digestible steps.

"Learn Embroidery from the Master"
This author is a renowned Master in the field of Chinese Embroidery for over 30 years."Learn Embroidery from the Master" is the subtitle of the original Chinese edition of this book.I am happy to see this masterpiece in English. However, this book includes a brief of Chinese Embroidery history which the readers may not interested in it.To me, this part is kind of a barrier which I have to switch into Chinese and Chinese history. You can image it will be a difficulty to the englophone readers. But, I think, this history part is an essential to this book.Besides, all the Stitches have their Chinese names and Chinese ways which are so different from the European embroidery styles. Also, do not expect too many projects you will learn from this book. For those who want to learn the Chinese Embroidery , this is a good reference book.

Empowering book on beautiful Chinese embroidery techniques
I got this book as one of several as I want to take up embroidery over the winter but wasn't certain how to do what I had in mind. This is by far the pick of the bunch, inspiring me to have a go. The author is clearly very knowledgeable, passionate about the rich heritage of embroidery in China. The details on how to work stitches are clear and simple. Wish I hadn't bothered to buy the other books. The visuals and explanations show the type of work I have been seeking.
