The Violin Lesson -- A Manual for Teaching and Self-Teaching the Violin

What you need for self-teaching
I don't have time to take violin lessons right now in my life. Usually books and videos you find have you play something with a little sprinkling of advice about how to hold the violin and etc. I used the Suzuki books but they never went into any detail about proper bow holding, pressure, angle of the bow, etc. This book does that in spades. Also, if you are more interested in the violin for creativity (avant garde, jazz, , etc) rather than just classical playing this is amazing for that. Even in the first few pages of the first lesson I have drawn out some beautiful sound from the violin and felt more like the violin was doing what I was imagining rather than squeaks and grinding.

Essential purchase
I already have a copy of this book. I bought it as a gift for a friend. I think this is an absolute must for any serious aspiring violonist or teacher

Worth its weight in gold
I'm an amateur violin player, who has started to play again after a 10 year break. I cannot recommend this book enough. The price might seem steep, but it's nothing compared to the help the book provides you with. More than worth the money spent. Violin playing demystified and explained plainly. Thank you Simon Fischer. PS. The Violin Lesson is perhaps not the best choice for a complete beginner, though reading it wont hurt you, whatever your level.
