FRAM CA10495 Extra Guard Rigid Air Filter for Mazda Vehicles

The filter was very difficult to fit into the housing and close because of its added thickness. I'll get a cheaper, thinner filter next time.

This item fits. It is difficult to get into my '06 Miata. The problem is not the plastic frame. The issue is that the pleats are about 1/16" to 1/8" too tall for a fast replacement. Instead of 5 minutes, it took 15. The trick is that the bottom hinges must stay in place while you put this filter in, and you have to carefully (but still forcefully) slide the filter into place. In order to get it to seat, you have to apply some pressure to get the pleats to slide past the cover, and then pop the cover in place.

It didn't fit perfectly. The pleats were too "deep". The K&N filter I normally use, fits perfectly. If I use another Paper/cloth filter and it too doesn't seem to fit properly, I will re-review this product. It could be Mazda's air box is just a big P.I.T.A. for most filters. It's always a "tight" fit, to get it to close properly!

The filter fits perfectly on my 2011 Mazda Miata MX-5 Grand Touring PRHT. Took about 10 minutes to install. No issues, great price, and I would buy it again.

The rigid frame of this air filter makes installing it almost impossible without damaging the unit. Check your existing air filter setup to see the dimensions of your OEM model and note the thickness. For me, on my Miata, the thickness and ridigity were what impeded my installation of this filter. The Wix brand works MUCH better as it is thinner and more flexible. I've heard that the K&N is also good but I'm cheap and don't want to spend $40+ on an air filter.

This filter does not fit a 2006 Mazda Miata. It almost sorta has the right shape and size, but is about 2 mm too small to fit in the grooves on the engine half of the airbox. Even if it did fit, the fact that it has a hard plastic frame (vs a flexible foam rubber frame on the OEM) means that it won't form a proper seal with that half of the airbox.I'm too cheap to buy the OEM, so will try the Wix or the NAPA-branded Wix next. Will try to remember to post results...
