So far the best chamois cream I have tried.
Until returning to bicycling after too many years of sloth (read, marriage and children’s activities), I never knew there was such a thing as chamois cream. Yes, I would get a sore rear end, and occasional saddle sores after too many hours in the saddle, but was blessed with a comfortable Selle Italia Turbo (leather) saddle, simple chamois padded shorts, and a general high tolerance of discomfort/pain. Probably did not hurt to be 50 pounds lighter in those days, too. Regardless of the listed real, or otherwise, reasons for not using chamois cream, other than ignorance, my rear end is not quite so forgiving of long rides as it used to be.I have tried a few brands, although not exhaustively so. Gooch Guard was my preferred brand until giving the Doc’s brand a try. Gooch Guard works fine enough, and no real complaints about it, but I find the Doc’s brand to be a step up in function. It is thick, almost noxema like in consistency, with a pleasant tea tree scent to it, and water soluble. I apply it to my skin and not the chamois, figuring that way I can be sure to get it where I know irritation exists (or will). I use a good size dollop, bigger than an almond, and smaller than a walnut. Then I slip on my shorts, which is currently a mix of Pearl Izumi, Endura, Craft, Black Bibs, and Assos, in order of increasing preference/comfort. Assos is a world apart, comfort and price-wise, but worth it, as an aside. The cream lasts and does help with preventing irritation. In the heat of summer, irritation cannot be avoided, but using Doc’s appears to significantly reduce irritation. Most of my rides are 1.5-2 hours in duration, and nothing like the day long affairs of my younger days, so I cannot really comment on longer rides, but it works for me. When I do get a sore, the cream helps to noticeably dampen the irritation. The container is quite large and a definite value when compared to other offerings. I like that it contains witch hazel, one of my favorite remedies for skin irritation.Highly recommended. Enough so that I am now on my fourth jar.

new and improved
I bought this a few years ago because of the ingredients compared to other products. However the consistency was too think and you had to heat up a little in your hand before applying so it would stick. On a whim I tried it again and have been meaning to write a well deserved review because they clearly have made a much better chamois cream. Now it is like shaving cream but maybe a little thicker, very easy to apply compared to previous product. Glad they made the change, hope this helps.

Doc's skin care chamois cream
It's a nice thick cream that goes on like butter and spreads very easily. Has a nice minty smell to it and washes off with just water. Trouble is, it also washes off with just sweat. I bought it because it is one of the only creams out there that doesn't have mineral oil in it, and I suppose that comes at a cost. There just isn't enough "oil" in the product to resist the sweat buildup in your thighs when your really pedaling like you would be to need a cream like this, so it tends to dissipate rather quickly and I am not going to carry the jar with me to reapply at stops, although I suppose that would be a great idea if you were cyclo-touring and not riding competitively or for fitness. So, all in all, great idea, somewhat lackluster long term performance. I use it in other applications not related to cycling, like a sunburn cream, body rash relief, etc, anywhere you need a little extra skin lubrication to allow chapped or damaged skin to heal. If it stayed on a little longer I would have rated it 5 stars.

Doc's Is The Answer!
I am new to road biking and at first I was really discouraged by how much chafing I experienced, despite wearing good quality bike shorts - anytime I rode more than an hour or so, hot spots would start up and it made riding really uncomfortable. I first tried a common petroleum-based chamois cream ( Paceline Products Chamois Butt'r Creme ), mainly because it was cheap and got decent reviews. Unfortunately, it absorbed/wore off before I finished with longer/hilly rides. I also wanted to find something without petroleum and synthetic ingredients - I don't need to be smearing chemicals all over myself every time I sit on a bike!Doc's was a fantastic find. The ingredients are all natural and soothing, safe for everyday use on sensitive skin. It does give that "wet" feeling when first applied, but this doesn't bother me as it goes away quickly. Minimal to no tingling sensation, also a plus in my book. My rides are in the 20-30 mile range, often with side stops along the way, and this lasts plenty long enough for that. I carry a couple of packets in my seat pack ( Doc's All-natural Chamois Cream 5ml Packet - 10 PACKETS ) just in case I feel a hot spot during a ride, but between finding a brand of shorts that I like and using Doc's I've been riding chafe-free for a while now. MUCH better! Thanks Doc's!

The bottom line? I won't use anything else on MY bottom line.
(Sorry... just couldn't resist that one.)I'm a recreational rider who puts in about 3k-4k miles a year on a road bike. I've had my bike fit dialed in pretty much perfectly for the past two years, but I still find chamois cream to be an "essential," especially on rides over 40 miles. I've tried several others, and had settled on Chamois Butt'r as my staple. I became a big believer in the skin healing properties of tea tree oil a few years ago. I've used it successfully and painlessly to heal saddle sores and remove skin tags, so when I came across Doc's and realized it contains tea tree oil, I had to try it. That was three containers ago.No chemical smell, very smooth consistency, lasts a long time even in the drenching humidity where I live and ride, it doesn't stain the chamois or anything else, I've yet to need to reapply on rides up to 100 miles, and most importantly, no saddle sores. When using the other creams, there were still a few spots where I could count on getting a saddles sore during the summer. Yes, it's slightly more expensive ounce-per-ounce, but the tub container (as compared to tubes) allows me to get every last bit, so I may be coming out ahead here.
