The book is an absolute pleasure to behold
Great book by an amazing writer. Rydyard Kipling has always been a true master of the English language! The font is well sized so that I don't need... a magnifying glass to read, with original illustrations and nicely organised. The book is printed in Great Britain by Amazon, as I see on the back page and it is an absolute pleasure. It's been a long time since I last read it, I am looking forward to starting it. Couldn't be happier.

It's Kim and illustrated......
But text from the original has been omitted even from the start of the first chapter and whilst it may be my lack of knowledge on the subject the illustrations seem to have little to do with the actual subject matter of the story.....It's by no means unreadable but I've ended up buying a different edition.

Great story. Poor print.
It is a great story. This particular print is unfortunately an Amazon print and it is not for people who like beautiful book editions.

If you have never read this you have missed a wonderful experience. If you have, read it again to remind you what a great writer Kipling was

An excellent novel of India that is still relevant today.
Kim is a classic novel of India set during time of British rule. It discusses “the Great Game” , the competition for political power and influence in India and Central Asia, which in some ways is still going on today - with America currently taking the place of Great Britain, China taking the place of Japan and Russia still involved today as it was back in Rudyard Kipling’s time. I heartily recommend it to readers, as well as works by historian Peter Hopkirk on the subject.

A compelling story
This is Kipling's best novel. The story is set in colonial India, in the years just before 1900. It takes place mostly in the Punjab. Kim is an Irish boy who has grown up in the streets and roads of India. He speaks Hindi and Urdu like a native. He also speaks English, but like a foreign language. He can take on the character of a Hindu boy or a Muslim boy just by changing his clothes.Kim discovers that some of the men that he admires are spies for the British government. He's attracted to that lifestyle. He also meets an old lama from Tibet who he admires for his tenacity and philosophy. He's torn between two directions. The rest of the story is about his struggle between these two directions. It's a compelling story and one that is easy to follow.

... a lot going on here and the author doesn't dumb any of it down
There is a lot going on here and the author doesn't dumb any of it down. A person must read between the lines. But this is a great story. A great read and even better to listen to.

Not high on my reading list.
I have challenged myself to read more of the ‘classics’ but this has been hard going for me. Sometimes Kipling has just completely lost me and I’m just reading words to get back to where I understand what is happening in the story. I have about 60 pages left and am determined to finish, but it’s been tough going! I’d rather read Daniel Silva :)
