Excellent Addition To The DBDA Series - Highly Recommended!
Ghost Run (Day by Day Armageddon Book 4) is the fourth book in the DBDA Zombie series and is a very engaging entry! I have enjoyed the series and highly recommended reading these books in their proper order since it will make following the backstories much easier. Since you most likely have read the other books, I'm not too worried about giving away spoilers on the setting of the book, but there will not be any plot spoilers in my review! The story is presented in the journal entry format that two of the other three books followed and it works well. I like Bourne's writing style and, since it is written from the perspective of the main character, focuses on the important events and explosive, exciting bits that make this an engaging read.I like the mix of both slow and fast zombies (along with reasonable explanation of why they differ) and generally believable settings. Where the book shines is in the very accurate and realistic description and use of the firearms in the story. We own a gun shop and are very active in firearms training, so nothing bothers me more than enjoying a good zombie or action thriller and running across a blatant error in the use of a gun. There is none of that here! The other thing I really enjoyed is the clever survival tips the pop up throughout the book since most of them seem to be practical solutions to challenges that would be presented during the apocalypse!Like his other books, this one adds some fun twists and moments of intense actions that makes this a fun and fairly quick read!Highly Recommended!CFH

Perfect book for new and old fans alike!
Who says you can’t go home again? GHOST RUN by J.L. Bourne brings new and old readers back to the journals of zombie filled badlands in the 4th installment of the popular Day By Day Armageddon universe. GHOST RUN is prefaced with a summary of the three previous volumes ( Day by Day Armageddon: Origin to Exile Books 1 & 2 ) Book 3 Day by Day Armageddon: Shattered Hourglass  that will bring new readers up to speed, and leave seasoned Bourne fans wanting to dust off their original printings ( Day by Day Armageddon ) and read it all over again.GHOST RUN starts off with suspense and almost never lets up as Kil intercepts a faint distress ping he can’t help but investigate. Leaving his wife, Tara and daughter, Bug behind Kil departs to gather supplies for hurricane season as an almost pseudo main objective. Navigating the badlands while avoiding irradiated smarter, and faster creatures, Kil discovers an unlikely companion that offers unique tactical advantages. Moving even further inland Kil discovers the source of the signal and that it may mean a cure to the bleak world facing his daughter’s future. You will enjoy that the main character isn’t perfect, and Bourne does a superb job further building Kilroy into a relatable character while showing his humanity throughout the novel. I experienced a wide range of emotions reading GHOST RUN being constantly surprised and caught off guard with each page. I think one of the best parts is that each chapter has at least one thing that could be spun off into a short story, or even a novel of its own, leaving readers wondering what was or could have been.As a huge fan of J.L. Bourne’s work after reading GHOST RUN I honestly cannot say which DBDA novel I like the most. Each book is packed with reality so don’t expect to read about anyone reloading their AR clip. His expertise, knowledge of firearms, and tactics are reflected in his writing leaving readers thinking long after the last page of anything he writes. JL Bourne is back in top form.
JL Bourne is back!!! Most fans would agree after hitting it out of the park on his first two novels the third installment of Day by Day Armageddon was putrid as a sewer zombie. Too many authors in the zombie apocalypse genre start of promising and end up some where in left field. I was honestly concerned this had happened to JL Bourne after his third novel.Glad to say I could not have been more wrong. Ghost Run is a great read and just as good as Bourne's first two novels. He went back to the journal style of the first books and kept the character count down so there aren't any main characters who come off as two dimensional. I don't want to give away anything from the plot but as much as I enjoyed this installment of Day By Day I could only give it 4 stars. I took away a star for a few reasons. 1) As much as I enjoyed the journey the ending seemed both forced and a little unrealistic even in the world of the ZA. It was almost like Bourne wrote with all this detail and nuance about the journey then realizing he was on a deadline decided to wrap it all up in 8 pages. Part of the ending seemed like a blatant rip off of World War Z (the movie scene at the wall's of Israel...not the book). 2) The GARMR. Finding and using this high tech machinery in the middle of the ZA.... well let's just say if Kilroy's luck were any more implausible he would have beached his boat, found a fully fueled helicopter waiting on the shore then flew to Atlanta and back. Of course then the book would have been about 20 pages. These were my two major issues for which I docked the book one star. But this is a great installment to the series. Now that JL Bourne is a civilian here's hoping he has more time to bring us stories from the Day By Day Armageddon universe. I'll be eagerly awaiting them.... so long as there are no Chinese time traveling astronauts :)

Best book yet
Just buy them. He created this genre and he still dominates it. Any one that can make you cry over a metal dog deserves a medal. What a ride!!!

Not at all thrilling
It was like reading a preppers badly written shopping list. But with less drama and pathos.

Superb
Well what can I say? J L Bourn is honestly one of my favourite authors. The man can write, that is without question but, what I enjoy is the sense of realism that he creates in his characters. At no point have I thought " that would never happen" or " this guy is just so one dimensional". Please keep writing as I absolutely love reading your novels. Plus if you have read this review and are still thinking "should i buy this book?" Let me just say the answer is most definitely YES' 😀

Great to read the further adventures in a world gone wrong. It follows the story of our hero exploring the bad lands hoping to find the source of a distress signal. Will he find it and will it be good news for humanity?I hope there with be another but if not then this is a fantastic series of books, worth reading back to back for a great scare fest.
