Probably really great...
I think these are probably really great but the problem is I’m finding them very strange having never played flat wounds before. I also think they might be a bit on the heavy side for me too though maybe I just need to persevere a bit longer to adjust to them.Tone is certainly very warm and mellow on my Joe Pass Emperor II and very quiet to play as others have described ie no squeaks or noise other than the tone of the note which is cool.Probably not the most helpful review - I think it might just be a case of getting used to them otherwise I would probably be more positive. If I struggle might go for the extra light 10s and if that doesn’t help will have to seek out a round wound that works well for jazz.

Make your guitar easier to play
I bought a new guitar, an arch top jazzer, so thought I’d splash out on some flatwound strings for it. I have to say that although they are more expensive than regular roundwound strings (because they are more difficult to make) they are worth it. Gone is the scratchy fret noise you get with roundwound strings, and in its place you get a smooth glide under your fingers as you move up and down the strings. The value of this can’t be understated - a guitar fitted with flatwound strings is simply much easier to play if you’re an intermediate or advanced player. I recommend you try them and find out for yourself. I don’t think I’ll be going back, despite the extra cost.

Great sound
Used these on a PRS SE Tremonte as an experiment and immediately noticed that the guitar had a much richer, smoother and more rounded tone. There is more depth to the individual notes and a richness that had been missing with the original strings. Playing the guitar the absence of noise when sliding on the would strings is a big plus. Will certainly be using again.

Give these a Try - Another Sound to bring to Jobs.
Chromes are a clssic set of tape wound strings that bring back that retro feel and sound from the 60s and earlier. Many jazz players get their sound from using these quiet, mellow strings. Flat wounds don't have the snap and zing that round wounds have - think of the guitar in James Bond and blues soloing - that's the sound of roundwounds - think of latenight romantic jazz, bossa nova rhythms, abckgound music in a resurant - that's the sound of flatwounds. So flatwounds don't scratch under your fingers and don't cut through and demand ayour attention - but for smooth jazz and some latin rhythms, they are just the job. You should try a set to see what flatwounds do for your sound - its another sound tool in the bank. (Flats on a single coil guitar cound be the answer instead of a new HB loaded guitar?)

WOW!
My Washburn j6 Montgomery sounds like its had an upgrade! Now has the rich, warm and jazzy tone I've been after for a long time. Playing through my Hayden Valve Combo it sounds gorgeous! Was about to upgrade the pickups and electrics but its almost not needed now! I may still just do it anyway and hopefully be blown away! Well done D'Addario!
