And they would work fine for most shell fish but I have my doubts they could stand up to Stone Crab in South Florida. I put two of these in my tool box and have already used them a couple times to give a gentle tap to things where a more massive steel hammer might shatter it. The rest are in the kitchen waiting for my next shell fish meal. I will try them on Stone Crab but I may resort to my usual two pound sledge for those things.

Cracking shellfish made easy
I have used these before, but after many years, of living away, from good, fresh seafood sources, the ones I had "disappeared". I now have a cousin, who lives on the coast and comes to visit, bringing a bushel of live Blue crabs, with her, to steam and enjoy. These hammers are lightweight, but very effective and makes getting to the meat a whole lot easier. I highly recommend them.
