Aliens - Artbook

This book is purely a collection of fan-created art pieces, collected for the film's 35th anniversary - so if you're expecting production art, stills and the like, you won't find that here.Many of the pieces are visually stunning and are definitely pieces I'd hang on my walls. There are a few that are of questionable quality but art is always subjective and there's always going to be pieces that an individual finds less pleasing - thankfully, they are few in this book for me. There are some pieces I felt were more deserving of full page presentation that they didn't get over ones that did get it but that's pretty usual for books of this type.Each piece is presented with some words from the artist, about their relationship with the film and what inspired their works. Works are split into collections on a theme - the xenomorphs, the Marines, etc.The print, material and binding quality is high, especially relative to the price. I've had more expensive art books with lower print and paper quality that were poorly assembled, so the physical quality of this book impressed me.Overall, one I'd recommend for Aliens' fans who are into fan art.

I just got the book a few hours ago from pre-order(since july) on amazon that got the date released advanced.- Styles: While I love epic realistic pieces the most, I also enjoy beautiful sketches, comic and manga styles very much as well. This artbook contains a mix of all these styles and then some other ones that I personally don't like that much.- Illustrations: There are some amazing, astonishing pieces, others very nice and creative, several okey-ish ones (part of these is because I personally don't like the style, so, totally subjective)... And then a few images that I think are just not done right because anatomy is wrong, the lineart is unpleasant to look at, look like value studies instead of finished illustration or artistic sketches... If I saw those pictures on Instagram, I would have said a beginner artist did them... So, I am really surprised they are here.- Format: of the book is mostly pleasant and well done, but I realized that some pieces with a lot of detail got printed in smaller spaces than others very simple that are printed in full page, which I found a bit sad. The book is divided in some "sections" with an image and then quotes from the film that I found nice and nostalgic.I know that art is subjective, but I can't help but be a bit disappointed with some images. And while I love other images, I have very mixed feelings overall, so it gets a 3,5 from me.

This book is a follow on to the 'Alien: 40 Years 40 Artists' artbook by the same publisher. It's a mixed bag of art styles on the theme of James Cameron's 'Aliens' movie (well, duh!). There's horror art, humour art, corporate logo art, comic book-type art (which takes up a lot of the pages), but nothing reaching the deathly-erotic airbrush art of H.R. Giger who invented the form of the franchise's xenomorph (maybe because it's too risque to print such art perhaps? I donno). So why buy this book over googling Aliens inspired art online for free? That's up to you. Also, what's to stop you owning this book AND google searching for art! Anyway, this book is for fans (and artistically-minded fans) of the movie and is a good platform for the multiple artists whose work it showcases on its glossy pages.

A welcome follow-up to Alien: 40 Years 40 Artists, this Aliens Artbook is an equally impressive affair. It will no doubt mostly appeal to passionate fans of the franchise, as well as art fans, but some pieces are certainly more accomplished than others. Still, this is a nice tribute to James Cameron's sci-fi action horror film.

Whilst some art may not be for everyone, if you don't fall in love about 4/5 times while flicking through this then you aren't an Aliens fan. Amazing.

Coffee table style book with awesome artwork through out, celebrating 35 years of ALIENS!! Lots of awesome art styles and commentary from individual artists. Great read and feast for the eyes!!

Can never find the perfect surprise gift for my husband, who is a Sci fi fan. He loves this book!
