It actually teaches you how to use a sewing machine!
I have not used a sewing machine for years - hardly since school - but I've got one and the thing terrifies me. I wanted a book which would take me through the basics of how it works, how to use it as in, for instance, how to get the tensions right. This is a large book, well laid out with superb line drawings that are large and clear and easy to follow, and with explanatory text beside each. The projects give you all the basics: seams, hems, zips, piping, gathers and more. This is, as it says, definitely for the complete beginner - the poor reviews left me nonplussed: what did they think it would be for?A well thought out and well presented book at a very reasonable price. Congratulations to Susie Johns.

This book is brilliantly written, simple, precise, well illustrated, most helpful to the beginner but also for those who have some knowledge in sewing. It covers all the details that tutors don't feel are important to mention. It has got everything needed to start a project in a clear and concise way.It is the perfect book for anyone and extremely good value. Thank you very much Susie Johns ! :) Carmelita Elliott

Super helpful guide for beginners
I have been hand sewing for years and finally got a sewing machine but had no idea how to use it. This book is amazing. It has detailed instructions, beginner sewing patterns, excellent diagrams and photos. I highly recommend to anyone who has never really used a sewing machine before.
