How the mighty have fallen
I bought these because the last pair I got lasted me ten years before they looked worn and twelve years in total. They were great shoes - warm, dry, durable, comfortable and looked good - and I felt good about not dumping worn out trainers in landfill every two or three years. This pair developed a split in the toe cap after almost exactly 1 year and I had hardly worn them outside. This year was warm and I had mostly preferred my cooler shoes. I tried to reach out to Merrell but they won't respond to me. So, 1 star it is. I had high hopes that these would last me 5 or more years, but they're almost useless after what probably amounts to three weeks of wear. Apparently they actually "don't make them like they used to."

Very poor - split in less than 14 months
I've had Merrell shoes similar to this for 15+ years and these are by far the worst pair I've had. They've split after less than 12 months of use (as seen in the photo) and so have no water resistance at all! Very disappointed with them doing this since they were fine otherwise.Won't be buying this model again.

Slippery when wet
Really disappointed with these. Slightest bit of rain on the streets and I might as well be wearing ice skates. Have had much better Merrells before. Worse still when I emailed Merrell Customer Service they just said “they meet the minimum legal requirements” so tough luck. Surely an outdoor shoe should do more than meet the bare minimum standard?

VERY TIGHT AND SMALER THAN EVEN NORMAL MELRRELL.
Purchased when on offer for around 30, the quality is superb really nice detail, fab soles. The fit, is well just horrid.I have had 30 plus pairs of Merrell’s over the years (ok a lot of years) so would say I’m in a position to make judgement.Vs other low rise Merrell’s the fit is just so small, I mean so tight..Couldn’t even get my foot in a standard uk size 11,normally the UK 11fit fine.If buying Male sure you can return, mine have been sent back.

"New Update" Very Poor Quality From Merrell
I'm re-writing this as I have a couple of updates regarding the Merrell Intercept problems and returns...I complained direct to Merrell via Email,I told them that I'm fed up of spending high end prices for poor quality trainers that literally split with 5 to 7 months of casual wear. They got back to me after a couple of days and stated that I contact Amazon because I bought them from here, they were trying to wriggle out of the Years Warranty offered with their product,so sent them a scathing email back stating the problems I've had with 3 pairs of these, all the same issues of splitting, front sides, like everyone else's seems to be doing,so sent that but in the mean time I contacted Amazon to say about Merrell stating that I should send them back here and Amazon Customer service actually honoured that and the very next day sent me a brand new pair of Intercepts,no problems and just asked me to send the split ones back, which I did.In the a response from Merrell they tried to deny there is any issues with their products so I sent them Photos of the splits on the trainers which they asked for to prove my point, told them after being a Merrell customer for nearly 15 years I will no longer buy their products,They replied and apologised, Also offered me a complimentary pair of Merrell's of my choice if I wanted to choose a pair in their way of saying sorry for the trouble I have had with 3 pairs of my Merrell Trainers. So it does pay to stand up for your consumer rights.
