So far it’s fabulous
Purchased this to replace the shredder I bought at Office Max in 2013 for $40 to keep in my home office. The only negative thing about that one is that it was fairly loud. Other than that, it was a moderately fast strip shredder on wheels that had a pull out drawer for easy disposal, took 12 sheets of paper, credit cards and DVDs, and it lasted 12 years. I searched for the same model, but it was long obsolete and even if the same one was still being manufactured, it wouldn’t be the same quality, just like almost everything else today. However, I’ve given this Amazon shredder a good workout for about 2-3 weeks and it performs exceptionally well. It’s also on wheels to scoot around easily, shreds quickly enough, takes 8 sheets, credit cards, DVDs, has a pull-out drawer, and much quieter than the last one, so I’m very pleased with it. If it lasts half as long as the other one, it’ll be worth it. Can easily recommend.

Workhorse of a Shredder!
This is a workhorse!* It shreds documents for an extended period of time without overheating or jamming.* It shreds credit cards like they are tissue paper.* It even keeps the job going while shredding discs at the speed of stacks of paper.* It has casters making moving a piece of cake.* It holds a huge volume with a drawer that slides smoothly and doesn't scatter the shredded paper all over when it is emptied.* BEST OF ALL....It does all this so quietly that it doesn't disturb your phone call as you shred away! Gotta love that!!!

Good solid shredder, micro-shreds, auto-feeding from a stack, 10-sheets at once -- good features!
Amazon Basics 150-Sheet Autofeed Micro-Cut Paper Shredder - I've had this from January 2022 to November 2024 so far, and it's been great. That's close to three years now, no problems. I've owned three shredders at other times before this, bought only one of them, none with all these features, and they've each eventually failed in one way or another.I use a paper shredder lubricating sheet each time the bin fills, to help preserve this machine's lifespan and keep it shredding well; these are items specifically designed to be passed through shredders to lubricate the gears and shredding teeth. You can also "do-it-yourself lubricate" the machine without having to buy such, and the instructions that come with the machine detail both ways, but I find this is the most convenient way for me.I really love the features, especially:- that it micro-shreds- the large capacity bin that holds a *lot* of shredding before needing to empty it- pulling the bin out of the enclosure (instead of lifting a heavy machine off the top of a bin and fitting it carefully back into aligned place)- the ability to shred 10 standard sheets of paper at once- the ability to place a stack of (150) sheets of paper under the pop-top, close it, and let them auto-feed though the shredder all on their own- not worrying if there's a staple (if there's more than one on top of each other, I'd pull them for piece of mind, though)- (a minor thing here, but I've used it) the ability to shred credit cards, and similar cards that come in junk mail [Don't forget to empty the bin first or place something to catch the plastic bits, to keep the plastic out of the shredded paper if you recycle it!]- (another small thing) wheels that rotate 360 degrees and roll easily -- so I can stash it out of the way, and pull it back out, just that bit more easilyIt's also got a number of other safety and informational display features that are nice. The price was in-line with prices for other shredders considering all its features. It makes noise, of course, but I can still watch TV or listen to an audiobook while shredding -- heh heh -- boxes of old bills and other papers. It doesn't manage to keep every shred in the bin -- just know that some are going to escape into the back of the bin enclosure and you'll eventually need to dump or sweep them out, including out of the track the bin slides in an out on. This is especially going to happen if you let the bin get *really* full to overflowing some.It also makes *some* paper dust, so if you're sensitive to that, you'll take that into account as you pull the bin out and dump it, especially when it's pretty full. This is probably universal to every micro-shredding paper shredder, though, too. *If you need to*, wear a mask and/or have a filter running right by it, or even roll it outside to empty it. Note that I'm healthy enough and this isn't really a problem for me, but it's the find of thing I'm aware of because of friends with asthma. :-)Since the shredding teeth dump shreds closer to the back, you can make the bin's capacity last longer -- that is, go a bit longer between emptyings -- if you pull the mound of shreds accumulating under the teeth towards the front of the bin before it gets to the top.If you've a pet or child who likes to walk across or swat or pat at the easy-press touch-button controls on top, be easier, knowing that there is a master power rocker switch on the back. Setting that to off turns off the top controls for safety and peace of mind, without having to unplug the machine -- which should also work.Five stars -- I'm really pleased with this purchase, and would buy it again if I had to.

For average home user, I think this is a good bet. The price makes it a steal.
To make up for my goofy question on "can this also grate cheese" I will offer a serious review. Only one day, but here are first impressions. This is replacing a $40 unit from Staples that lasted 11 years!!! Compared to the old one I was kind of shocked at how small this is. I shred bills and personal ID related papers a few times a week, so I am not a heavy user, but smaller container = more frequently having to empty it and with this design, it is a tough trick to empty this without spilling at least a few pieces on the carpet. Yes, of course the dimensions were listed and I could have read them and gotten out a ruler, but this might be important to some, so please check it out. However, this seems to be much better in really cleaning out the shredder part, so it might be an improvement as with my old one, most of what ended up on the floor while emptying was from paper bits still sitting in the grinder. The handle, silver part in the picture, looks like some kind of chute for feeding paper, but it is positioned very well and the ergonomics of lifting the top are also an improvement over my old trusty unit.It is quiet. This is not a deal killer for me, but it is an improvement. Can you have a phone conversation while shredding? Maybe, but I wold not recommend trying this on a job interview call or asking for a first date. The micro cut is pretty cool. My old shredder was just strips and while I doubt anyone would try to reassemble my garbage, there is now zero chance of anyone succeeding in retrieving my personal information from this. Alas, the times we live in make this a real concern.Quality and build? As I said, I have had this one day, but I was surprised at how heavy the top is. That seems to suggest a solid build and some attention to the overall shredding mechanism, but these things seem to fail more with switches and electronics than the mechanical part. Will it last 12 years like my old one? I have no idea. these days it is hard to imagine anything costing $50-$500 lasting two years. I did also buy "lubricating paper" so that may help, but my old shredder, the one that lasted 12 years (and died to a bad auto switch) - I never even knew you were supposed to lubricate shredders.Update, after months and months of using this a couple times a week, I am very happy. It works well, is very easy to empty. My only gripe is the feeder slot is a little tricky sometimes. Perhaps that is a safety feature to keep fingers out, but I seem to always miss it as I reach under my desk to shred.
