Pottery for Beginners: Projects for Beautiful Ceramic Bowls, Mugs, Vases and More

I was so excited to receive this book and even more excited when I started looking through it! I am an avid follower of her beautiful work and images on Instagram @karaleighceramics and the photos in this book are just as gorgeous!I admit that I am a complete novice and there were plenty of great projects for me to get started on, as well as plenty of projects to make as my talent (hopefully!) grows. The level of explanation and instruction is thorough, yet totally accessible and written in the same friendly tone that comes across in her social media accounts.The breadth of content in this book will appeal to pottery enthusiasts of all abilities and levels of experience and I can definitely see myself using this book as a guide and a resource for many years to come!. Thank you Kara for sharing your knowledge with us! 🙏

I’m not usually one for writing reviews but I simply had to for this book. If you are still on the fence about purchasing it then JUST BUY IT! It’s an incredible resource for any potter of any skill. The projects are gorgeous and attainable but, what really sold it for me, is the wealth of information regarding using commercial glazes and I especially loved the details about creating combinations, test tiles and how to apply glaze effectively. I do not make my own glazes and have no real interest in it but Kara’s kind and generous tone of voice conveys that this isn’t important to your journey and shouldn’t stop you from creating lovely work. There’s also some great home kiln firing advice for kilns of all sizes and lots about different types of surface design like underglaze and stamps. So far I’ve tried her mindful bowl pinching and the spoons project, both have turned out incredibly well and I cannot wait to make more! Kara's has encouraged me to finally take the leap and buy a wheel which has scared me for longer than I care to say, but I've done it (thank you Kara) and I can't wait to be a part of her Pottery Club!I truly believe this book has something for everyone but, if you are a home beginner potter like me, please get this book. You won’t regret it.

Kara has created a kind and helpful community with her Pottery Club and her new book, Pottery for Beginners, fits alongside this perfectly. What I really love about the book is how each project builds upon the skills of the previous one. The photography is beautiful and Kara's passion for her work shines out of each image.Even if you've been throwing or hand building pots for a while, you'll still find plenty of little tips and inspiring ideas that Kara has so generously shared. I came across Kara on Instagram at the start of my ceramics journey and began collecting her pieces which are inspired by the coast near her home. It's been exciting to see the book in progress on @karaleighceramics and finally have all of its beauty in my hands!

This is a lovely book that takes you on a pottery journey. From beginner to the more advanced, Kara will take you through the steps you need to play, learn and progress. Also included are links to videos which will help you through the trickiest of tasks. A treat for yourself or a gift for someone who is creative and yearns to know more. You won’t be disappointed. This book got my attention from the very first page. It's photography and easy to understand steps are perfect for any beginner. You can really feel the author's passion for her work. I also bought a copy as a present for a friend of mine, she now attends pottery classes herself, can't say better than that. It's an enlightening read even if weren't interested in pottery, great for any coffee table.

This is brilliant, amazing, well written, right amount of words and images, step by step, tells you what you need and so much more. I have a fair few pottery books and by far this is the one I was searching for and needing as an amateur. Well done and THANK YOU Kara!

It’s one of few books I’ve read that genuinely goes back to the real basics and manages to take you through to some pretty advanced stuff. It’s really comprehensive but super easy to get into for any skill level (even for an idiot like me!). And it’s also a beautiful read.
