A Truly Great Item
This really is a great release from VideoAsia, a company known for putting out rare and often out-of-print films in an accessible manner. While calling any of these releases "DVD quality" would be laughable, being that they are almost invariably nothing more than VHS tapes shakily converted to a digital format, audio hiss and all, the fact of the matter is that most of the films were only ever available on videotape anyway. I'm not going to complain about a glorified bootlegging company refusing to remaster their releases when I have been searching for any copy of some of these films for years. Beggars can't be choosers, as they say. For example, "Black Cobra IV: Detective Malone," the reason for my purchase of this product, runs a hefty price tag on the underground market since it was never released in any format in North America, with the only true copy being a Japanese VHS release with English audio and Japanese subtitles. I could never bring myself to pay to import such a thing, so I could not have been happier when I found that VideoAsia was willing to simply place a copy of that exact item on video disc, Japanese subtitles intact. The film is horrendous, exactly what I was looking for, as Fred Williamson actually refused to participate in this fourth Italian blaxploitation version of Stallone's "Cobra." Instead of new footage of Williamson, it is comprised of nothing but scenes from previous installments rearranged to almost appear coherent. Packaged with other rare gems such as "Mafia Vs. Ninja" and "Black Emmanuelle II," one really couldn't ask for much more from this highly recommended three-disc DVD release.

It's o.k...
Could have been a lot funnier, but is an o.k. movie. Don't buy on blu-ray - not worth it, not enough action as that's what I was looking for in this movie. I fell asleep on it so that tells you a lot right there. I like Michael Jai White, but I've seen him in better movies with better acting and better roles as a good and as a villain.

Okay collection of exploitation fare is best for those who lwant a trip to the grindhouse
Video Asia has once more returned to video tape sourced movie for their latest release of films. Its an odd mix of "urban" oriented films. As I write this I've seen all but 2 of the films and its an okay collection, all full screen. Most are watchable, none really remarkable.Kill Factor- is an Al Adamson cop/martial arts film with Jim Kelly. The action is good, though the plot, about a cold bomb, makes zero sense.Pacific Inferno-Jim Brown in a low budget war film about soldiers forced to recover silver from the bottom of Manila bay for the Japanese. Much too talky.Black Emanuelle 2- after a spicy opening this film bogs down into mostly talk as a doctor tries to cure his amnesiac patient. Its BORING.Miami Cop- Okay cop drama with Richard Roundtree. He's slumming here and knows it.Savage Island- This was cut from two other films with a couple of minutes with new material of Linda Blair in a wrap around. Its a "Women in Jungle Prison" film thats not bad for what it is but one should probably look for the original films.Street Hunter- Good action film with Steve James battling a silly John Leguizamo and Reb Brown for control of a city's under world. Mindless funIndio- solid exploitation fare with a half Indian marine fighting Brian Dennehy for control of his people's land. Boxer Marvin Hagler costars (and starred in the sequel)Detective Malone- final film in the weak Black Cobra film is finally here in the US though it has Japanese subtitles. Its marginally better then the previous entries but that isn't saying much.I haven't seen the last two films yet,Mercenary Fighters or Mafia vs. Ninja.Over all its an okay set. Whether you'll want to splurge for this will depend on whether you want to see any of the films. Personally if you can get this cheap enough and are a fan of exploitation films I'd say give it a shot.
