Herbs
I purchased this product specifically for my melt and pour soap making, primarily to add vibrant color to my creations. The pigment performs exceptionally well, and I am thoroughly impressed. It will undoubtedly become my preferred colorant moving forward. For fellow soap makers, I highly recommend giving this product a try.

The oil extract color is beautiful
To all reviewers having a hard time getting a ruby red oil extract out of alkanet root, I highly recommend that you let it sit in oil for at least 24 hours up to two weeks. The day you soak it in oil you’ll get a grayish black extract and the next day it should start turning red. I hope that helps.

Alkanna tinctoria root powder for dye
Dyer's alkanet is a traditional natural dye, although it is not very lightfast and has only been used for indoor items that will be protected from sunlight, such as tapestries and soap. It produces a range of colors from a pale lavender to a deep purple-blue color, with some red tones achievable, all depending on HOW you use it. Simmering will absolutely kill the red tones and push the blue into the ascendancy, sometimes even resulting in green or brown shades (especially if there is iron in your water). An alcohol soak for a week will release more of the purple hues of the root powder, but this is typically used for dyeing cotton and other bast fibers, not wool. Note that this is one of the smelly dye baths and you really want to work with it outdoors! Get the pigment soak accomplished first before trying to add this as a colorant to soap, and be sure to add the color to your soap after saponification, not before. Too much heat and the alkanet color is ruined. If you do apply heat, be sure to keep it below a simmer.

Cannot use for dye or cosmetics
Please do not be like me - read and believe the bad reviews. I don't know if this is mislabeled or if it is simply old, poor quality or overprocessed. However, regardless of the reason, you cannot use this powder to extract pigment for dye or cosmetics. It is a dingy brown color and will not extract in oil or alcohol the way true alkanet should. I also did an alkalinity test and it did not react properly.

Okay for soap making
Still learning how to use this for natural soap making but it did yield a lavender color. A little on the gray side though. Seems it is a trial and error. These results came from use an oil infusion of the alkanet. I will do more research to find a better method

I am convince that this Product is going to help my Hair Loss Shedding & Regrowth!
I am convinced that this will WORK for my HAIR SHEDDING & HAIR REGROWTH from the other testimonials that I have found online! I have done my research on Herbal Alkanet Root and one article I read declared that "Alkanet Root is an incredible super ingredient that doesn’t get enough love." Traditionally it's an Ayurvedic herb named 'Baal jhad' or ‘Ratanjot’, & has been used for centuries for its therapeutic qualities. It is used for a variety of reasons such as dying fabrics, coloring foods, staining woods, soaps, lip balms and even healing wounds. I want it to STOP MY HAIR FROM FALLING OUT and for REGROWTH. From the testimonials that I have read, I am VERY HOPEFUL that this Root will do just that, although obviously this "suggested description of this product with the solution of also adding Black Seed Oil and Coconut Oil" will take time to see results. However, there is anecdotal evidence and testimonials that I have found to suggest that it’s not only great for hair coloring and counteracting premature greying, which would be wonderful as well, but also that it encourages Hair Loss and HAIR GROWTH. If it just STOPS my Hair SHEDDING even, I will be ecstatic. THANKS Seller for offering this product. I would MUCH RATHER use an Herbal solution than anything that isn't a "Natural Remedy."

Color seems more brown
Not the color I expected..also hard to add into makeup. Stays kind of grainy. Maybe there is a trick to it

Awesome
I use Alkanet frequently to color cold process soap. It makes a really nice, natural looking purple color and the tone depends on how much is used. I generally use about a tablespoon per pound of soap and modify that according to the desired intensity. This product is perfect for soap because it’s an extremely finely ground powder so there’s less chance of deposits being left behind in the bar. My previous brand was a courser grind and did not mix as well into the soap batter and created small clumps at times. I sometimes use alkanet in oil infusions then use the infused oil to color soap and other products. This works quite nicely too. This is a 3.5oz craft paper bag so it will last a long time, as only a small amount is needed for most personal care products. It smells very fresh and is a great value. This brand has many other herbal powders available on their Amazon store.
