Overall excellent. You will learn a lot about ships building this. Plenty of wood stock and the metal castings are great. The manual can be vague at times but the blueprints more than make up for it. Dealing with Model Expo while building another of their kits was a pleasure and they won't let you fail if you need help with replacement parts, etc. You will be building a real ship in miniature and an heirloom in the process. Depending on the amount of time you spend working on it, you can expect to take a year to complete it based on my progress. Some experience is helpful and good tools are a must have, but you won't regret buying this beauty.

I just got it and it looks like this is the beginning of a long kit. Lengthy instructions that are not for beginners but that's to be expected. Instructions could be a little more clear. Lots of other work besides gluing is involved such as soldering, wood cutting and wood bending. As another review said this is super difficult for a beginner, the hardest being the planking but that doesn't make it a bad product. I am thinking though I may need some extra help with this. In short, it's a great product, very challenging and instructions could be more clear.

Probably a great model but the directions are meant for a shipbuilder which I am not. I have put it up in the closet unfinished.

This ship has got to be the easiest ships for beginners. As an avid model builder, this ship was one of the 1st I learned on and I wish it would have been THE 1st. Having said that, model wooden ships are not for the faint of heart. They're not plastic cars or planes. However, Model Expo makes close to, if not THE best instructions, COMPARED TO OTHER MANUFACTURERS.
