Is this model made in Italy or China?

This machine is made in Italy....I ordered another with compressor and it WAS made in China. VERY poor quality, lots of plastic and the turn on knob was broken upon removal from packing material. This machine is fabulous. I have made at least 100 plus quarts and pints since purchase.  We give as gifts to housewarming or hostess gifts for dinner parties.  I have only one complaint it is about 45 lbs very heavy to lift. It was well worth the money not like any other machine out there.  PERFECT ice cream/ gelato every time.  A tip on vanilla.  I use Nielsen-Massey Pure Vanilla Bean Paste.  Takes that vanilla ice cream to a higher level.  Just delicious.

Question 2

On average, how long does it take to churn a single batch of gelato?

Depends on the batch size, but going with a smaller batch will always create a superior product with this machine. I would recommend 1qt max.  It takes perhaps 20-ish minutes.
I have read some people pre-chill their machine, I don't think this is a good idea.  You have a good chance of creating a thin ice crust on the bottom that isn't quite scrapped well.  It will just take a little longer if that happens.
Also** DO NOT let this thing stop on it's own by leaving in the machine too long.  you can cause damage to the machine.  Saw another person reply with that.
As far as gelato, this does not make that. It spins at a faster speed than it's bigger brother the Musso Lello. Neither really do Gelato in my opinion, but this machine introduces far more overrun (air).
I think a cheap (but great machine) recommendation for gelato, I would recommend the Cuisinart ICE-70. I have experience with that, as well as the two aforementioned ice cream makers.  The ICE 70 does not introduce much overrun comparatively

Service and reliability... Where do you go to get them repaired after 1 yr. warranty? How many people have owned then >6 yrs. We make 200 pints a yr.,

I have not had to get mine repaired. I have owned mine for 8 years and make 2 or 3 batches per week. I think it is taking slightly longer to freeze than when it was brand-new, but it still freezes nicely. I have always followed the rule of waiting 10 minutes between batches to keep the compressor running good.
