This Home Coffee Roaster is Really Impressed!
UPDATE 8/11/14 - The Heat isOn!Ok, so I got a digital thermometer to test the heat.I removed the kettle from the heat at 210 degrees (I only opened the top briefly to place thermometer each time.Keep in mind, this is not typical and precious heat is lost by doing the experiment way)HEAT TEST over TIME6 Minutes later - Test 1: 204 degrees / Test 2: 204/ Test 3: 2048 minutes later - Test 1: 200 degrees / Test 2: 200 / Test 3: 20010 Minutes later - Test 1: 198 degrees / Test 2: 197 / Test 3: 19812 Minutes later - Test 1: 194 degrees / Test 2: 193 / Test 3: 195In the first 10 minutes of removal from heat on a gas stove the kettle holds heat well and only drops one degree per minute. (Plenty of time for pouring my coffee)Also, I need to say that after boiling the water 15 times thisweekend, the handle was never too hot to touch. Only warm.Great handle, so far and no problems with pouring.Still loving my kettle!irst Post 8/8/14I just got my LEVEL Kettle Today and couldn't wait to open it and try it out! I brew pour-over coffee daily in a ceramic filter cup with beans that I roast myself at home, so I'm really wanting to a make sure I get the best possible control in the pouring of water and the flavor in each cup. I had been using a standard wide spout tea kettle for years and have gotten quite fed up with water spilling or over-pouring on the grounds so I have decided to get a narrow spout pour-over kettle. I was seriously thinking about getting the Hario V60 Buono (27oz) Kettle before I chose to by this one, because I have seen it used at Blue Bottle Coffee and I really appreciate their style. But I ultimately decided to take a chance on the LEVEL.I realize that I made myself a guinea pig because at the time that I purchased this, there were no other reviews anywhere! (As of today, I am the first on Amazon) The only thing that resembled a review was that I saw several coffee blogs recommend it via the websites for Able Brewing in NC (www.ablebrewing.com) and Fourbarrel Coffee in CA (fourbarrelcoffee.com).So I made myself some coffee this afternoon with my new LEVEL kettle. Here are some things I noticed about it.1. Packaging - The box was simple and tasteful in style. The kettle and the top were both wrapped in plastic, the end of the nozzle was protected with a plastic sheath2. It is small (30oz) but it is sturdy. One of the reasons I chose this over the Hario is because it's slightly heavier. I don't want a flimsy kettle. That's my preference.3. Looks - The stainless steal really looks clean and brilliant so far and is not an eyesore in the kitchen. As a matter of fact, I think my wife and mother-in-law are jealous because of how nice MY kettle looks.4. It claims to be dishwasher safe - I don't plan on putting it in the dishwasher but it's nice to know your $40+ Kettle can handle it. (Will update if I choose to use that feature)5. It can be used on all heating surfaces, including gas stove which is what I have. I heated it several times today just to see how it handled and so far it's doing well. (I suggest if you have a gas range, to use it on the smallest burner possible. A wider burner on my stove would over-heat the handle.)6. The top is adjustable for making it sit fit snug on the kettle. This reduces the chances of it falling out while you're pouring. It also has a small vent that allows it to breathe while heating up. It would have been nice if it whistled if the water started boiling, but I guess you can't have everything. I also didn't like that the top nob got quite hot while the water was heating. I didn't need to touch it, but I wanted to know how everything handled in the heat.7. The handle is great! It is a thick dark plastic that has good grip and feels solid. It did get hot during the heating but not as hot as the top nob did. Again, I'm using a gas stove with potential flames shooting out around the side of the kettle, so I have to see what some others experience on electric stoves.8. Heat - After about 5-7 minutes of my first coffee, the water was still very hot. My thermometer is not working well so I cannot give exact information on how long a specific temperature lasted in the kettle. What I do know is that I was able to pour a dang good cup of coffee and the water inside the kettle was hot enough for a second or third cup and to reheat would not take too long at all.9. The POUR, The POUR, The POUR...this is why you purchase this thing, folks! It has such good control and allows you to continue seamlessly as long as you need or pause without spilling water down the sides like most kettles. I was like a little kid in disneyland pouring my coffee. My kids were looking at my weird. I was in heaven.Overall, I was very impressed with this kettle and very pleased with my purchase! I've posted some pictures that I hope can be helpful to someone. I plan on using it at least twice a day, so I will be seeing how it handles wear and tear. I am very much invested in roasting my own coffee and I need a kettle that is going to bring out the best flavors in the beans. Hopefully, the LEVEL is here for a long time.I have rated it 4 stars because it has achieved everything that I have expected of it so far but it is too soon for me to say that it has exceeded my expectations. I am honestly impressed and currently pretty thankful for my purchase. As I critically assess its durability over the next several weeks and months, we'll see if the star rating deserves to go up, stay put or needs to go down some.Happy Pouring!

The base is too small to use over my gas stove efficiently.A high flame will melt the handle and a low flame takes forever to boil water.Hot water also can spurt from the spout. (Not filled all the way)I boil my water separately and then transfer into this kettle to pour for my coffee. It pours with exceptional control. However for $45, it should be able to perform both tasks.

I would give this pour over five stars but for one glaring problem. The black plastic knob on the lid is threaded plastic and it can easily strip. In fact mine was stripped when delivered. I needed a pair of pliers to remove the lid to pour in my hot water. Other than that the construction and handle are solid.

Spout joint leaked from get go
Similar to other reviewers, my kettle leaked from the neck joint. It was a nice looking kettle and heavy, but the failed joint meant I returned it and will be shopping for a different kettle.

DO NOT BUY.
This is a HORRIBLY made product. First, of all the neck of the spout is not just silver but has this gold stain on it like it was hastily made- to be blunt, it looks like someone spilled gold colored paint on the neck of the spout. Second, the inside of the kettle was dirty with stains from God knows what. Third, if you look at the third picture I have posted, the inside of the kettle where the spout connects to the body looks like it was hastily connected. All in all this is the worst product I have ever bought from Amazon. The actual kettle does look the same as the picture but don't be fooled because the quality of the product that I have received is nothing like what the picture described. I was hoping to get a nice gift for my coffee-loving parents but boy do I regret buying this. I'm highly disappointed that this product passed any quality control test.

This Kettle is perfect! We make coffee in several different ways and this is great for heating enough water to make a couple good size cups of coffee without having to wait long. The angled spout is just what we needed for pour over and/or our AeroPress.
