Well, according to WD ADVANCED Technical support, they do not guarantee the drive will work correctly in a desktop.  I had one that would cause the HD activity light to stay on intermittently and I had to reboot the computer when it happened to clear the issue.  Keep in mind I ran a WD 4TB Gold for 21 days without the LED activity light issue but encountered this problem with the NEW replacement drive.  Needless to say I do not own a 4TB Gold drive any longer.  I gave up after getting 3 drives with 3 different problems.  Oh, my system has been running fine with a known good WD Black 1TB in it so no it was not my computer causing any of the issues.

Answering to correct incorrect info in another's answer. SSD's are "solid state" drives (hence the Acronym SSD) so have no moving parts and are much faster on data speed than mechanical (spinning discs) HDD's.  I think most experts would say SSD's from respected manufacturers are far more reliable than (mechanical) HDD's for many reasons particularly because SSD's don't have moving parts that can fail mechanically. Data centers typically still use HDD's because: 1) cost (per stored TB) is still much lower; 2) reliability (vs. SDD reliability) is mitigated by using HDD's in RAID configs providing data (drive) redundancy (plus typically also data speed benefits) . When building PC's for home / business use, a good data speed /system cost / reliability trade-off can be reached with hybrid storage config's that typically combine: 1) SSD (Ex.: 500GB) for OS, program files, and sometimes their run space (such as scratch file locations); 2) HDD-based RAID for storing larger amounts (terabytes) of data, preferably in a RAID config to provide both reliability (data redundancy) and speed (Ex.: striping + mirroring). Our home PC uses a 500GB SSD for all "OS and app executable files" combined with a RAID 10 (RAID 1+0) involving 4 x 4TB HDD's on enterprise-level dedicated RAID card. This is a system that can edit / scroll HD video (high data read/write rates) plus has huge safe data storage on the RAID
