Good, Solid Program - for Most
Background: I have used Fix-It 5 on Windows 98 and it has been an ABSOLUTE necessity - it has helped me use Windows 98 up to 2009 with very few "burps". Fix-It 5 kept my registry cleaned, the Disk Fixer checked for problems and the disk and registry defragmenter kept W98 as fast as could be expected. When I upgraded to Windows XP last year, I also upgraded to Fix-It 9. The interface is different and offers One-Step "solutions" - which I have never used. Fix-It 5 had no such "features" and required some attention and understanding before diving in and "repairing". I also do not use the antivirus offered - so I do not need updates.Initial use requires an online "update", which I think allows Avanquest to keep track of the 3 users maximum per purchase. I have had no further updates. The Registry Checker will search the registry and report with a list of "issues" with a 3-step level: GREEN is already checked and is safe to delete. YELLOW is next - and caution is necessary. RED is the last level and caution is mandatory. With Windows XP I have learned that it really is OK to have lots of registry "issues" (according to Fix-It 9) and I leave all the YELLOW and RED items unchecked and untouched, unless I recognize any as a deleted file or program. With Windows 98 - I had only 2 registry "issues" when completed - with Windows XP, there are probably 30 -80. Fix-It 9 also has an undelete function (I use ERUNT, explained later). There is a startup optimizer that allows inspection of programs and services loaded at startup - and a Firefox connection optimizer. I have used both.I have had no issues with Fix-It 9 using Windows XP. Some of the other programs in use - all free: Firefox, Spybot S&D, Avira AntiVir, ERUNT (an EXCELLENT registry backup and restore - what System Restore should have been!), Foxit Reader (PDF), CutePDF.My Thinkpad T42 with 1-1/2 GB RAM boots in 1-1/2 min. After initial program opening (prefetch loading) Google boots in 3 seconds, Gmail 2 seconds, Standby in 5 seconds.CONCLUSION: Fix-It 9 is a solid program along with Windows XP and has many useful features. It does require some reading and is capable of destroying your computer registry if you instruct it to do so. If you want a complete fix up with no effort or learning, a qualified computer technician can accomplish that.

Fix-it Utilities software
I have been having problems with IE script errors when I try to print anything from my one computer. I had tried 3 other programs to fix it. I decided to purchase the Fix-it Utilites. It really cleaned up my computer and it has a lot more speed than before and it is keeping it running well. But......the main reason I got it was to fix the IE script errors and it has not done that. I am going to contact them to find out why it hasn't worked for that since it was advertised to clean up registry errors and script errors. For the most part I like it, but not totally what I needed. Will come back and add comment after I get in touch with their support person.

Could install programs previously not able to do so
Great value for the money. Had a problem with a program that refuse to install, gave popups suggesting that program was installed incorrectly. After running Fix-it- Utilities the program installed perfectly. It also provides for unable to boot to windows choices to fix.

Very bad decision on my part
I had used the product (in earlier versions) before and had experienced problems with any computer I put it in. I came to the conclusion that the "problems" were that of my computers and not "Fix-It Utilities". This time I ordered it with a new laptop computer that I ordered through Amazon.com (which Amazon.com told me they could not ship in a timely fashion, but eventually did). I thought if I immediately installed it in a new computer, everything would be great. I received the "Fix-It Utilities" in a timely fashion and installed it in a brand new Toshiba laptop. I have had numerous problems with it since. It seems to have "issues" with Vista Home Edition and especially with AT&T software. I still have it installed but have made the decision to give up on Fix-It Utilities and go back to Norton. The opinions expressed are my opinions only and are not intended to discredit Amazon.com and/or Fix-It Utilities, collectively or singularly, in any way, shape or form.T.S.

Dangerous to your system.
I installed this software on my PC and experienced multiple freezes and crashes. When I tried to use my MS Word 2010, even existing saved documents, I had to reenter my product key even after removing this software. Nothing on my PC worked correctly with this software installed. The package states that this software is compatible with MS XP, and that is what I have, but it sure wasn't compatible. Secondly, if you try to call the technical support number listed in the accompanying product ligature, you will get a recording saying that you have dialed an invalid number. Dr. Paul Douglas Smith, Th.D.
