No, the Whistler does not have side access. We recommend, if you need that functionality, to look at the Protactic 450 AW II or, as noted, the Flipside 400 AW III.

Q: Is it possible to remove, say half of the dividers, to use for things like clothes on trips where you aren't bringing as much camera gear?

Yes it is possible to remove them all.
