Enhances the system
This little siren adds the extra punch, as far as the noise factor, for the alarm system. It is a small foot print, and totally independent of the main console, you just need to plug in the ac adaptor.

Poor Quality Control
Easy to pair to a Mace system. And, it has a decent volume. Problem is mine broke after a few months- ie just stopped working. Am waiting to replace it. But doesn't seem very reliable.

A good alarm
I've given an extensive review of the the Mace Home Security unit and included a review of this siren. When set up it has an effective range of about 200-250 feet. This is helpful if you live in a rural area, depending on how far away your neighbors are and the amount of neighborhood noise. The siren is a remote unit although it does require 110v for the supplied 9 volt power supply. It has battery backup in case of power failure. I have the siren located about 20 feet from the control unit and it works fine. The only problem I had was with programing it to the main unit. There have been three versions of software for this unit developed over the years and each requires a specific programing procedure. Identifying the serial number on back of the main control was supposed to identify which version I had but this proved to be incorrect but fortunately for Mace's fantastic tech support I was able to resolve this problem fairly easily. My advice is that if the one of the two programing techniques don't work then try following the other procedure. Again, it's not super loud but does help in providing a deterrent.

Not compatible... HUGE waste of time
It is irritating as hell. We bought two of these and spent hours and hours climbing up and down ladders, screwing these things into the attic... stepping over fiberglass insulation, trying not to crash through the ceiling below. And after all that was done, these things didn't work. Oh, technicality: it doesn't work with the Mace SOLO alarm system. You think they could say that????? Of course not! That would be too simple. We ordered probably $500 worth of stuff from Mace... all these products are just tossed out there on Amazon to pick and choose from. Who would have dreamed that the corporation would intentionally hobble the SOLO unit down so as to not operate with the line of products? But there you go. That's how they roll. Ditto goes for the motion detector units. We bought four of those... they are trash now too. And with Amazon's return policy, you only get (at best) 30-days to figure out that items are not compatible. If you don't JUMP right on the project when the package arrives, well TOO BAD FOR YOU!!!! If you wait a month to get started (IF you happen to have a life going on), too bad, so sad. So, since we didn't begin the install within our 30-days, forget about returning anything. You know? People have jobs and mortgages and THINGS TO DO in life. Who has time to learn some corporation's line of products to try to figure out where they are trying to sneak something through and where they are being honest? Who wants to stop their lives and dig into all the fine print, running everything past an attorney? How about, you just buy something and it freaking works and is compatible? How about being CLEAR???This would be being clear: "We're sorry, this product is not compatible with the MaceAlert SOLO!"If you read their marketing schmooze on the control unit, it says:"Customize and expand The MaceAlert SOLO wireless alarm system supports unlimited sensors. Additional accessories include surface mountable sensors for standard windows and doors, a multi-surface contact sensor for garage doors and other frame challenged openings, motion sensor for open areas like hallways and stairwells, an extension siren for additional alarm sound range, and spare remote controls for additional users."No where in there does it say, "Wait, wait... we lied... you can *only* use **some** of our sensors and sirens (not unlimited)... and if you're LUCKY, you might just order the right ones! Hehehe... you feelin' LUCKY today??"So... no... I have no respect for a corporations that pull this kind of cr@p.

Your neighbors better be less than 50 feet away.
Unfortunately my nearest neighbor's window is about 150 feet away. I mounted the siren outside facing his house and up under the eaves of my two story house. Although it's loud if you're outside under quiet conditions it can't be heard from inside my neighbor's house with his window closed. So, as the others have said here, it might help deter a thief but it's not that effective at bringing neighbors over to investigate. Too bad Mace didn't make a louder one. If someone here knows of a louder siren that could be triggered by the noise of this siren then that might be a solution but I've not found such a beast.
