Perfect...Except Missing its Reason for Perfection
100% better than the cheap grills, this is definitely worth it. Even cooking, great versatility, easy clean, good safety features, etc. The ceramic plates do darken over time, but those plates aren't expensive to replace if you care about the cosmetic appeal (it's never affected cooking for me, and I've used one of these 3-5 times a week for years). So, I definitely recommend this grill, but when you buy it, budget for its best plates on top of it. The deep dish plate turns this grill into an oven. You can cook entire steaks or chicken breasts—juicy and plump (baked, not grilled)—in a third or even a fourth of the time that you could in the oven. And the warm-up is still just 5 minutes. Amazing time-saver! Plus, they're just more perfect as well. So, my complaint is that this version of the Evolve doesn't come with the deep dish pan, which, to me, is the ultimate feature of this grill. Fortunately, I still had my deep dish pan from the previous grill that died after a few years of constant use (disappointing, but it was almost daily use, so I can only mildly blame it), and it was still in great condition. But just be aware...if you like things baked or steamed, you're missing out without the deep dish pan.

I'd buy it again.
Great value. I cook so much on it that it has become a stable of my kitchen. This cooks burgers and chicken very well. It also makes it so that cooking requires very little attention from me. I just cut up the meat, put it on, set the timer and go.I don't recommend the built in timer. It is pretty useless. It can tell you that it has been warming up for 5 minutes, but the timer doesn't actually tell you that it is now at the right temperature. Thankfully, it does beep again when it has reached the right temperature which can take 10-12 minutes most days. Also, I don't use the timer for cooking your food. I just use a microwave timer, watch, or something else because the timer only gives minutes ( No seconds ).My only other complaints about the plates are that when I put garlic on the chicken, char forms on the plate which is very difficult to get off. Also, if you are making waffles, putting too little mix is a million times better than too much. Pancake batter can be a nightmare to clean out of the back of this grill.Wow, you'd think from this review that I didn't like it, but I actually love it. Like most things, it isn't perfect. However, it is easy enough to work around the weak spots. The freedom that it gives me to just put meat on and leave it is invaluable. Also, ti always cooks well past the required temperature without drying out the meat.I'd buy it again.

I love this grill so much
I love this grill so much! I did a lot of research before buying it and ordered the shallow griddle at the same time as the grill so they arrived together about three weeks ago. I have used the grill 5 days out of every week since and love it! It is set up as a permanent appliance in my very small kitchen, so that tells you something about how much I like it since it has dedicated real estate on my counter top. I have made steaks, grilled sandwiches, made burgers, cooked hash browns, hand made french fries, eggs, bacon, chicken breasts, sausages; I've grilled vegetables including bell peppers and tomatoes, asparagus and sliced onions, all delicious and fast. The grill plates come off quickly and easily and wash up in a snap. They go back on just as fast and I plan to buy the deep griddle and muffin pan plates to round out my collection of removable plates. The "sear" function works beautifully and love that I have control of the heat so I can cook everything to order without concern about having only one level of heat. I highly recommend this grill and feel like it was a really good buy for me.

and good reviews, though the Cuisinart has more
I have been using GF products for a while. When the last one's surface become unusable, I thought I might try something else. After some research I found this one and the Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1. The price is similar, both have interchangeable plates, adjustable heat, and good reviews, though the Cuisinart has more, and a bit higher rating. So it was not an easy choice. The reason I chosen this one is the design of the plates. I guess both has advantages and disadvantages. On the Cuisinart side it is true that because it is double sided, you don't need extra space to store the not-in-use plates and because both sides of the plates are non-sticky, you can place them into a dishwasher. (Though I am not sure it would be cleaned ok. Although the surfaces are "non-sticky", meat and oil can stick pretty well...) The downside is that the not used sticky side is facing with the heating element, and I just did not like this solution, because I think it makes the plates' life shorter. I might be wrong, but this why I purchased the GF GRP4842.Mine arrived with the usual grill plates and the waffle plates. When you open the box you have to be careful, otherwise end up like me, I broke the handle of the waffle plate... The usage is pretty simple, but it takes a little time to heat up. When you switch it on, the timer (which is only a timer, it will not switch off the heating) is set to 5 minutes and 300 F. That five minutes is not enough to reach that preset 300... There is a button on the top to select if you want to set the heating or the timer, would be nice if there was an indicator which is the current selection?Replacing the plates are pretty easy. The lower and upper plates are different but they are interchangeable, so you need to make sure you place them correctly. The biggest issue is that the heating is not even, the middle part is more hot. It is an issue only when you want to make waffles. Also there is a little design issue. If the waffle mix overflows, it will go inside of the machine and it is not easy to clean. This is why I gave only 4 stars out of 5.Overall it is a very good product, but not perfect. There are a few things that could be improved

Love it!!
Got the one with panini/grill plates and waffle plates. We've cooked chicken breasts on it and waffles. The waffles plates take I think almost 10 minutes to heat and about 8 minutes to cook. Other than that I love it. Also we have to spray the waffle plates between waffles. Also, one negative is that if you overfill the waffle plates and the batter spills out of the back then it's a nightmare to clean. Best to wait till it hardens and pick all the crust off. It got stuck on the coils and hinges. So the next time I made waffles I covered the back in foil by sandwhiching foil between the plates (only about an inch--just to hold it in place) and let the rest hang over the back of the machine like a flap. So not wrapping the machine just letting it act as a skirt to protect. It worked! Also remember to level the machine (by using the lever) when doing waffles or it will spill out the front. Even when leveling it so it doesn't spill, you can still have spillage if you over fill. It's so easy to clean (both sets of plates). The chicken just slides off and you can clean it with a paper towel then wash it. I did spray the plate to begin with as directed on the Manuel. Oh and the grill plates fit 4 flattened chicken breasts tight. Wish it was an inch or two wider. Not a big deal though.
