The Perfect Bedroom/Office/Nursery Fan
The perfect bedroom fan! Ok, I get how some people donโt care for this fan because itโs not blowing gale-force winds at you. However, if you want a gentle but effective fan for your bedroom (or anywhere you want to still be able to hear) thatโs quiet and keeps the air fresh, this is for you! Itโs 85 degrees outside and this fan literally makes it feel like thereโs AC on. Itโs super quiet, doesnโt rattle, doesnโt change direction, but because of the shape of the vent holes it effectively reaches from one side of the room to the other. Plus, it fits in our window without removing the screen and the display lights go off automatically. The remote is a nice bonus. Iโm going to buy another one for the guest room!

Does what is needed.
Easily installed (inside the screen) with plastic baffles of varying sizes that slip into the window well next to the unit for a custom fit. While not heavy, it's thoughtfully designed with molded hand-holds on either side right where you need them, so you can easily maneuver this in and out of the window. At only a few inches high, you can put a brace in the remaining window to give you more security. It looks nice, blocks much less light than a box fan or an air con, and pushes a strong corridor of air straight ahead - there are no directional louvers. Quiet as well, though not quite as quiet as a Dreo tower fan. It switches from intake to outflow (I believe the whole fan head rotates inside) in seconds. The cord is a decent length! The thermostat is a nice feature (?), but I would absolutely rather have what it's missing - a timer. It's great to have fresh air rather than that from a stale, noisy, heavy air con (and a nice option to central air on milder days). The internet thinks that using the exhaust can help pull humidity out of a room, and we'll try that on the next muggy day. The panel controls are simple; the remote is small, slippery and utterly losable (a small piece of velcro is included to help). We're giving this a five but would I mentally make it a 4.7 for lacking a timer. I'd imagine the Alexa-enabled one might have resolved this, but we thought +$30 extra was too much for that feature. So, just a few days in I recommend this fan. In my book it makes up for being a little more expensive by not being ugly or burdensome, and for being thoughtfully designed and quietly powerful. This has a variety of reviews, but Vornado actually printed inside the box "if anything's wrong, we'll make it right." - which is encouraging. It's still very new - we'll update review if anything changes, or it becomes noisy.

Pros, Cons, Important Tips & Fixes.
It works pretty well, and has its pros but also cons. Pros for this are as follows. โญ- Pretty quiet It's not very noticeable on low to medium; high is just a hum, but not annoying. โญ- Moves a decent amount of air The air is highly directional, though, basically jetting out directly in front of the device. (Please take a look at cons though, because there are cases where you won't get as much out of it unless things are done) โญ- small profile and sleek look It blends in well and doesn't take much of your view from outside. The touchscreen controls are quite nice and responsive. No worries about a button failing on you over time as some other products. Cons are the following to consider, โญ- Design might not be appropriate for your kind of window (also a fix for it) Because of the way it's meant to sit in the window frame, there may be a large opportunity for air to come inside. I had to use padded weather stripping on the top and bottom to give a tighter seal to stop cold drafts and such. The lip at the bottom is the main issue. (could've been solved if they produced this with foam pads at the top and bottom to create a better seal.) โญ- Reduced speed in a closed room Depending on how sealed your room is, this product might move more or less air. It shines when there is a way for the air it's pushing in to escape, but suffers if there isn't. If possible, to get the best out of it, you can crack a window somewhere else, or just open a door if the room is sealed too well. (Really wish it came with a dual system so it can do both input and output at the same time, just down to design. Though it would cost more, and more complicated means more likely to have issues, but would have been great to have the option.) โญ- Insects may get in (also a fix for it) If you are in an area with lots of little critters flying or crawling about, this product doesn't come with an insect mesh to stop them from walking through. Although if it's on, it seems to do an okay job of deterring most. I ended up getting some mosquito netting and weatherproof tape to cut and cover the outdoor air intake/output. After that, most I've seen is a nat once in a while. โญ- Rain leakage (also a fix for it) Partially responsible due to the fitting in the window and the seal. The noteworthy areas are the sides of the product. I've noticed that when it rains, because of the design, the sides can let water leak into the interior as most of it drips down to the bottom lip of the device, where it ends up inside. High wind scenarios make it worse. ( Solved this by getting extra-thick weatherstripping and wrapping it around the top, bottom, and sides of the fan where the window meets it. making sure that the cut seam is on the middle top surface of the device. Plug the sides of the window and device tightly.) โญ- Let in the draft When off, it will still let in outside air draft. Which could be good or bad. Bad if it's too humid out or cold, but it doesn't stop fresh air completely on the good side. (can probably get some kind of fabric velcro and cover the inside air slot or something, haven't thought of a fix that would not be janky)

Excellent Window Fan
This is an amazing and well built window fan unit. We have used it for about 3 years and it still works great. It is substantially better, more effective and more durable than the cheaper basic window fan units. It is easy to use and control and the remote works great. The one-touch reverse direction is handy: If its hot outside, this can blow the hot air out of your room. If its cooler outside, it can bring cool air in. But I do wish it could be programmed to automatically reverse in/out at a certain temperature. It only seems to allow you to program fan speed at temp, not direction. Obviously, this is not Air Conditioning... But if you can't get AC in a few rooms, or your AC is broken, this is a good second choice. Please note: where and how you install it, spacing for airflow, which direction the fan points, how much other airflow allowed in/out of the room, how warm/sunny of a window you choose, etc have major effects upon how well this works. Other reviewers have already given lengthy descriptions of installation tips.

Powerful and quiet
This is my 5th Vornado Transom fan, and I love them. They are quiet, do a great job of cooling a room, and are far more attractive than most window fans. I have had a couple of these fans for more than 3 years, and they have performed very well, including the one I use year-round. The fans are lightweight and easily portable, and they are quite durable and sturdy. I also like the slim profile as it means I can set the fan in my windows without removing the screens - a very nice bonus. The only negative is I find the electronic controls somewhat temperamental; the fans (all of them) often change modes on their own, going from manual to thermostatic or fan to exhaust for no apparent reason. The problem isn't so serious or frequent as to affect my overall opinion of the fans, but I do wish Vornado would address this issue.

Good product. I don't get the negative reviews.
First off let me tell you this review is about the Vornado TRANSOM Window Fan, and no other fan. It's not the Alexa compliant fan. It's the regular transom fan. It puts out a lot of air (I called Vornado before I bought it; they say it's approximately 1300 cfm, which feels about right to me) and it's fairly quiet. I slept with it about 9 feet from my head last night. Our low was 58 degrees up here at 4000+ feet in the Southern Blue Ridge, and I was very comfortable. There's a nice remote that comes with it, and you can turn off "AUTO MODE" which is the thermostatically controlled mode, which I did. I just want it on, and if I'm cold I'll turn it down or off. It's not an air conditioner. We have an air conditioner, but I live out in the country and I want clean outside air coming in my house as much as possible. If it's nice and cool outside, I don't need to close up the house and run the air conditioner. It won't immediately lower the temperature in your house, since your house is big, holds a lot of heat, and you, your family, your pets, the stove, the electrical things you are running in your house, and the sun hitting the outside walls and roof generate a lot of heat. Air conditioners make it happen by blowing very cold air, across coils that are freezing temperatures or even lower. 60 degree outside air just doesn't quickly cool your house down. However, if that nice cool night air is blowing right in your bedroom, you will feel cool obviously. If it's 90 degrees out, I seriously doubt any fan is going to blow 90 degree air in your house and cool it off. At the highest setting, and 9 feet away, the air coming from the fan is about as forceful as you would want. It's not a weak fan as others have alleged. We have a small house, and the windows are small, but the fan fits nicely inside the screen. You close the window down on top of the fan, and it's stable. We had some rain last night, and no water came in the house while the fan was running. The modular foam that fits next to the fan does a good job of occluding the remaining space. I don't plan to leave the fan there in this downstairs window when I'm away. If I were to want to do that, I would probably make a better gap filler with plywood, etc, and find something to secure the window from being open from the outside. I think I can turn it off, remove it, stow it, and put it back in place when I'm home in a minute or so. So, it's a very nice fan. I have had other Vornado products, and still do. I trust the company and that's one of the reasons I bought it. Of course I can't say anything about longevity. The fan has been running 24 hrs non stop, on high, and I detect no noise or other problem with it. So, I don't know why others have posted negative reviews. Either they think they're getting an air conditioner, or maybe the reviews are bogus to begin with. This is a fan, not an air conditioner.

High quality window fan, but poor seal upon installation.
I recently purchased the Vornado Transom Window Fan, and overall, I was very impressed with the build quality and design of this product. It feels like a well-assembled, high-quality appliance right out of the box. The sleek, compact form factor is one of the standout featuresโitโs noticeably smaller and more discreet than other window fans Iโve researched, which is great for maintaining a clean aesthetic. The feature set is robust, offering multiple fan speeds, directional control, and a handy remote, which adds a lot of convenience. One of the most pleasant surprises was how quiet it is, even on higher settings. Itโs clear Vornado has put thought into minimizing noise while still delivering good airflow performance. Installation instructions were okay, and the process itself wasnโt overly complicated. However, I did encounter a significant issue with the foam spacers provided for sealing the unit against the window frame. The foam was insufficient to fill the various gaps, and I ended up with several large air leaks around the unit. While I understand that itโs challenging to design a perfect seal for the many different window styles out there, this particular setup wasnโt suitable for my window type, and there was no easy workaround without purchasing additional materials. Due to the difficulty achieving a proper sealโand the resulting inefficiency of the unit in my setupโI ultimately made the decision to return the product. That said, I still believe this fan could be an excellent choice for someone with a more compatible window frame. If Vornado improved the sealing components or offered more versatile installation accessories, Iโd definitely consider giving it another try.

Good Fan, Though Tricky to Set Up
The fan itself works very well. It's not too noisy, and on the lowest setting works good as a white noise generator as well as a cooling system for when you're sleeping, depending on how far the window is from your bed (in my case it was less than three feet away from mine). The temperature detection feature works alright as well; you can set it to a particular temperature and whenever the room gets too hot it'll activate and blow in cool air until it gets low enough, after which it'll shut off by itself. Of course this can result in the fan turning itself on and off at regular intervals, which can be annoying. I also like how the fan's airflow can be reversed with just a push of a button, allow air to blow out of the window instead of being drawn in through it. This is handy not just for maintaining good airflow to help get rid of excess humidity, it can also help get rid of smoke and unpleasant odors you might have- one time I was changing a vacuum bag and accidentally spilled the old one on the floor, and this fan helped get rid of the musty smell that lingered after cleanup. The biggest issue I have with it, or at least one that I think most people would have with it, is the foam rubber inserts used to fill in the gaps for the window frame on either side of the fan. They come in three different sizes (1 inch, 2 inches, and 4 inches wide), and I managed to find which ones fit the window perfectly, but it was a bit of a hassle both to figure that out and to actually get them securely in the window frame, requiring me to hold three things steady on one side while I wedged another thing in on the other side. But also one thing to consider is not just the width, but the height- I don't know what your window frame is like, but the inside of mine has a slight incline (probably from the house settling over the years), and the way the fan and blocks are designed they can only stay upright if they're being held snugly between the sliding window from above while sitting on the windowsill, so if your window frame is a bit warped like mine or just a bit lower than usual, the blocks will be too short and fall over. I had to slap on several layers of duct tape on the bottom of each block in order to make them tall enough to fit properly. And of course, if you're taking the fan out of the window to put away for the winter, you have to consider where to put the blocks, both the extras you don't need and the ones you used for the window, so it takes up a bit more space in storage, and personally I prefer appliances like this to have as few loose accessories as possible. Still, aside from the minor annoyances of the blocks, this fan has served me well in the last few months, and hopefully will continue to do so.

Wider than my window. Strapped it on there anyway. Works fine!
I mis-read the width, this unit is wider than my window by two inches, as I measured the wrong area. Anyhow, using the the included foam blocks to fill under the unit it all fit perfectly to fill the gaps. The unit simply sits on the window ledge, flush to the surface of the window opening. A few small bungee cords attached to scews (picture frame anchors) it easily holds the unit in place with no movement. With this placement, I can even pull the whole unit sightly forward and close the window behind it with the bungee cords. It Works fine.. its quiet, but not silent. I've had quieter fans. Air flow is good, but Static pressure seems to be low, anything blocking airflow like a closed door greatly drops its ability to move air. Crossflow fans like this are effecient, but lack a strong ability to push air through restrictions or into closed rooms.

Awesome fan, almost too quiet
At first didn't think it would make my room cold enough, felt like it wasn't moving much air on highest setting. But I was wrong and this thing is awesome, have had to turn it down to 1. It may not feel like it's moving alot of air because of how quiet it is (almost too quiet for me lol) and the force of the air coming out but it is because the area the airs coming out of is so much bigger than other window fans

Good, but loud
The reviews say nothing about how loud it is, but it is powerful and nice to have. Only the alexa version is worth buying IMHO. Follow up: As loud as it is; I leave it on all the time. Even in winter, it exhausts hot air from my place. There is water heater baseboards in my apartment that have no sensor, so it really makes it more comfortable. The non Alexa has survived 2 months, 16 days of being on in the winter. but would the Alexa version? Almost worth it to program it to intake for short 30 second bursts, and then go back to exhaust. Second Follow up: This fan gets quieter over time, and has about the same performance! Found some 3mm dust filter medium, am making a steel/plastic fan filter holder which connects to the fan on either side; for the fan, when it gets dusty merely blows dust around. I could tell my cats were being annoyed by the dust. I used some thin scrub pads for the mean time adhered by black duct tape; and their eyes are much less irritated.
