Anxiety Anonymous: The Big Book on Anxiety Addiction

Great Application Of The Twelve Steps To Anxiety
Virtually everyone struggles with anxiety in these times, and the twelve steps is a great place to start for dealing with this addiction. I have been through a lot of recovery from drugs and alcohol and lots of Celebrate Recovery at Saddleback Church, so I know the twelve steps really well. This author applies the steps one by one to our sometimes crippling anxiety and makes it clear how it affects us, where to start to address this addiction, and how to work the steps one by one thoroughly. The only problem was lots of grammar mistakes; I wrote the author to suggest to possibly get a better editor. Still readable though; highly recommended.

useful and inspiring
Anxiety Anonymous: The Big Book on Anxiety Addiction presents anxiety in a new light as an addiction, correlating AA’s 12 Steps process as a way to recovery. Throughout the book, Dr. Ortman shares a variety of spiritual practices ranging from Christianity to Buddhism. This book contains many nuggets of wisdom and tools that many people can use to help deal with every day anxieties that so many of us face in today’s stressful world. I found this book to be very thoughtful, useful and inspiring, helping readers on their path towards self-awakening and transformation, in addition to dealing with more serious cases of anxiety.

I would recommend this book to anyone adults I know suffering from anxiety to use in conjunction with their other forms of treatment. Don’t expect this book to cure your anxiety alone. At times, it felt tedious and I didn’t want to go through the work but that is not unusual when it comes to thinking about or working on any of your emotional or mental issues and shouldn’t be a deterrent from reading this book and utilizing the exercises and techniques it provides you with. Overall, would recommend.

A Workable Remedy
It sounds surreal that anxiety can work like OxyContin or cocaine--so that we can't get enough of it! Still, Dr. Ortman makes a strong case that this is how the malady works and why it is so difficult to treat. This is a great source book for anyone working in the field. And it is gentle balm for anyone hurting this way.
