This shooting star are yours to keep and enjoy for eternity. Iron meteorites come from large asteroids with molten cores that once orbited the sun between Mars and Jupiter. Extremely slow cooling of those cores, over millions of years, allowed nickel-iron alloys to crystallize into fantastic geometric structures knows as Widmanstätten Patterns. Much like snowflakes, the pattern of every iron meteorite is unique. Catastrophic collisions within the Asteroid Belt shattered some asteroids, sending pieces in all directions. Some of them eventually encountered Earth's gravitational pull, resulting in a fiery journey through our atmosphere at speeds up to 100,000 miles per hour. Super-heated to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit, the surfaces of these fragments melted to form beautiful sculptural indentations called regmaglypts or thumbprints — features that are unique to meteorites. This iron meteorite specimen acquired it's unique surface characteristics during flight through our own atmosphere. They are known as a shrapnel specimens — fragments which exploded during flight, due to atmospheric pressure or collision with another meteorite. Jar measures 2" x 1.5", the iron meteorite is +/- 1 gram and about the size of a pea. One centimeter scale cube for size reference.

6 year Iron Wedding Anniversary gift
I thought the iron piece was going to be a little bigger and there would be a more official like certificate of some sorts to address who the gift is for. Just a suggestion other than that my husband liked the gift. I appreciate the packaging super cute.

Do Not Buy!
Does not look like the picture. Meteorite is tiny, the picture shows it compared to a dice but it is no where close to being that size. Absolutely false advertising. Would give 0 stars if I could.
