The Dance offers fresh perspectives ("I believe that the big picture is somehow shaped by how we live the details, the little pictures that run through our lives."), and wise counsel ("If you need to be afraid, fear will come wherever you are, but you don't have to go out looking for it."), and it confronts the dangers of oversimplified, sugar-coated self-help recipes. ("Guaranteed outcomes and delineated steps may be warranted and useful for baking cookies and assembling bookshelves, but I find them less useful and potentially misleading when we are talking about finding meaning and creating happiness in our own lives and in the world.") As a psychotherapist, as an author, and as a human being, I have found a kindred, anti-namby-pamby spirit in Oriah Mountain Dreamer. Reading The Invitation is not a prerequisite for reading The Dance, but I can't think of a better way to spend your reading time than to read these two babies back to back. I said that it is difficult to imagine that The Dance is better than The Invitation, but you don't have to rely on imagination. Reading is believing.

Read Oriah's "The Invitation" (circa 2001) and just recently learned of this sequel... Maybe it came at just the right time in my life, or maybe "The Dance..." is actually even better than "The Invitation," hard to tell.I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Oriah is an honest writer. She doesn’t hide her failures, feelings, bad thoughts or mistakes even as a spiritual guide. Her writings are down to earth, practical and applicable steps for living a slower and calmer life. This book is easy to read, things we might have already know but to be reminded again. I also enjoyed her brutal honesty at the events her life and I felt so human and adequate after finishing this book.

I love Oriah's books. She writes from the heart, and it shows.

I enjoy the honesty that Oriah writes from. I read the "Invitation" many years ago, so I was happy to read another of Oriah's wonderful books. This book has wonderful meditations at the end of each chapter that I find valuable.

This book is a book to read over and over and to reference in life as it passes by. Time changes and so do the meanings in different stages of life. Loved this book and love it every time I read it over and over again.

Going through spiritual awakening can be hard, confusing and lonely at times, or a lot of times. Reading this book, which has been written with such honesty, curiosity, compassion, and humor, makes one breathe a little easier. It got easier for me to embrace my ignorant human-self after reading this book. Thank you Oriah!
