Another great read by Renee . Full of suspense, not sex and intrigue. Give this give star series a read.

Not every meaningful relationship follows the same path 💙
“The Soldier” is book #4 in the ‘Chicago Bratva’ series by Renee Rose. They are interconnected standalone stories, so you need not have read the previous books in order to understand this one. Pavel and Kayla, the lead characters in this book, actually met and started their connection at a BDSM club in the anthology Blacklight: Roulette Rematch. It’s not a problem at all if you didn’t read that, but if their names are familiar to you that’s probably why.Pavel had a brutal childhood that was really no childhood at all. He’s a man who has no idea how to love somebody, although he understands loyalty and the code of the bratva, in which he’s a soldier. He knows that he likes to be in charge in his physical encounters with women, and likes to inflict controlled pain along with pleasure, but he’s not very experienced as a Dominant. Kayla had a normal childhood with loving parents. She’s living in Los Angeles and working random jobs to make ends meet while pursuing her dreams of being an actress. She herself can’t understand why she enjoys being a service submissive, but it fulfills her so deeply that she can’t deny it. In addition to navigating their constantly developing connection, Pavel and Kayla are each also navigating other complications and connections within their lives. Plus, he lives in Chicago and she lives in California. Calling it complicated would be an understatement. Both of the main characters grow and develop by the end of the book, particularly Pavel. As a reader, I would’ve liked to experience more of the midweek interactions by phone between Kayla and Pavel, but I realized there could’ve been word count issues and so forth that impacted that. Or, it’s just the way the author wanted us experience the story. Regardless, I really liked the ending. If you’ve read the other books so far in this series, the glimpses you get of those other characters within this book are great. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Loved it but definitely some missed opportunities.
3.5-4 StarsUgh, I hate when I am confused on how I feel about a book after finishing it. It's especially confusing when this is an author that I absolutely adore, and I was so excited that Pavel and Kayla were going to get a full length story. If you've been following along with the Chicago Bratva series, then you'll know that Kayla and Pavel actually met in the Blacklight: Roulette anthology for Valentine's Day. They sizzled the pages, but it wasn't enough. Their voices were insistent that their story wasn't over as they tried to navigate a long distance relationship. There's a lot of things that I liked or loved, but there's also some things that I thought were missed opportunities. I think it would be easier to just list a few of them. It's still an amazing story, but I am just confused. I liked it, and I have reread some of my favorite parts, but I think it could have been better.-Most of the story takes place on the weekend meetings between Pavel and Kayla. Although you get to see how much the weekends mean to them, I would have liked to have seen more of their interactions with everyone else during the week. I thought it would have made a better story to show how much they are changing to the people who know them best.-I would have liked to see mini text and phone call sessions during the week parts. I just felt that it was weekend meeting after weekend meeting for awhile. Absence makes the heart grow founder, and it would have really cemented that point.-Both of them are going to have to grow and adapt if they want the relationship to work. They just have too many challenges between them, i.e. the distance, the nature of their relationship, etc. However, I really thought that Pavel had an instant change. I would have liked to have seen more of a gradual change from grumpy Bratva Soldier to In Love Dom.

Pavel & Kayla’s Love Story
I can’t believe I forgot to leave a review for this book, especially since Pavel is my favorite in the series. Shame on me!As always, I’m not going to summarize the book. There are plenty of those available. I’m just going to share a few thoughts and feelings of my own and hopefully convince you to read this wonderful story. To begin with let me say, I loved this book. Period. I had assumed Pavel would be the last member of the family to find love and was pleasantly surprised when he met Kayla and despite everything, including his own resistance, he now has a life filled with happiness. He might not have wanted it to but love found him and gave him exactly what he didn’t know he needed or think he deserved.Pavel & Kayla are just beyond adorable together. He’s definitely the most broken and stubborn of the bunch. I loved watching him slowly open up and accept he’s actually worth loving and capable of real love in return. Kayla is his perfect partner in every way and they bring out the best in each other. I love how she isn’t afraid to feel and is willing to go after what she knows she needs. She’s such an upbeat happy person and Pavel so needs upbeat and happy in his life. If you’re going to read this, and I highly recommend you do, take the time to read their first scene in the Black Light: Roulette Rematch anthology. It’s not their official meet-cute, that happens in “The Fixer”, but their time at Black Light is the real beginning of their story and you will enjoy this book that much more if you do. Even better, start from the very beginning and read them all. They are so worth your time. This series is the best and each book is just better than the last.

I would follow you anywhere
I love Renee Rose's mafia series (both of them, but Vegas Underworld had so many more books) and this Bratva series is loosely spun off of that, but only very tangentially. This series takes place in Chicago and a couple of the relationships originated in novellas from the Roulette books. Needless to say...those super steamy reads are worth a read. But the fulfillment of the relationships are what you find in this series. Just enough kink to make it fun and a great bromance between all the guys. Enjoy!

Love this series!
Renee Rose has done it again! The Chicago Bratva series just keeps getting hotter! The relationship between Patel and Kayla is intense and just continues to get deeper the further you read into the story. Master Pavel is commanding, but it’s his softer side that makes him yummy!

Great addition to the series
I really enjoyed the latest in this series. I liked Kayla and Pavel equally (a rarity) and found their interactions to be sweet and sexy.Yes, she's naive and he's a dreadful communicator but really my only issue with this book was how quickly it ended - it felt quite abrupt.

Soldier Up
Pavel is a bit of a softie, underneath his violent exterior. I love him. He's perfect for Kayla and she's made for him.Their story is Black Light was awesome, but the full book is worth the investment if you like sex, drama, and emotion in your 5* reads.

A well written book with plenty of feels.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have read all the series so far and each book has you either laughing, crying or holding your breath. Great stuff.
