Q: Is it backward compatible to work with 1g sfp ports at 1g speeds?

I can confirm using a Unifi Dream Machine Pro that has SFP+ ports, and a Unifi Gen 1 non POE 24 port switch, that has 2 SFP ports, that this cable does indeed work between the two. I didn't even have to manually set the SFP+ port on the Dream Machine Pro to 1G FDX, leaving it on auto negotiate, plugging the cable into the gateway first, and then the switch worked perfectly.

This is a 10Gig SFP+ cable. It is designed to connect 10Gig Ethernet cards to 10Gig switch. Unless you are using a router and PC with 10Gig interface, this will neither work for you, nor will it provide any benefit

Q: Will it work betwen different brands, such as a zyxel / netgear switch to a mikrotik router?

Yes, zyxel, netgear and mikrotik have no compatibility requirements. The 10G SFP+ Cable will work between a zyxel / netgear switch to a mikrotik router through 10G SFP+ Ports.
