Absolutely love these reels! Great quality, cast great and holds plenty of line for when I’m out chasing trophy catfish.

I bought these as a cheap alternative to my Shimano reels and paired the Penn Fathom with a low cost rod. I did this so my kids can saltwater fishing enthusiasts without fear of dropping an expensive Shimano rod and reel overboard. The level wind is kid friendly and the reel has plenty of drag to help fight larger fish like snapper, grouper, and amberjack. I highly recommend these to budget minded fishermen looking for a great level wind reel.

Great little reel for the money. I think I have 4 of them now. I troll and bottom fish with them.

I was excited to put line on my brand new reel on my bad ass star rod…. Entire time I kept hearing the sound of gears grinding in and out. It would get quiet then it will get loud… the real is just a day old, put it in its first rod. Well, the reason I bought this new real is because the last one did the same thing and failed, but Penn wouldn’t take it as a return so I was hoping to stick with the Penn name and get a really good real the second time hoping the first one was just a fluke. Don’t attempt to call pen to complain because they claimed that every reel was design to perform perfectly the way he performs, and they all perform perfect. Honestly, since this is not my first replacement, this is like two replacements in. I really think that little motto is not honest., but just to be honest, I have a new TDL that was in saltwater ones and now it’s rusted the pieces inside all of the bearings. At least Penn used stainless steel.

Good looking reel, feels balanced. I was hoping to get the line counter since it was on the description. No counter was included on it. I will update once I get it in the water mext month.

Used for 3 days boat fishing so far . Reeled in everything from mackeral to a decent sized Tope . Just make sure the level wind is well lubricated before use
