The bread guide arrived on Friday and I really wanted to love it but when I opened the box the SMELL was disgusting. I immediately put it into a bath of scalding hot water and dish soap and let it soak for a couple of hours. Surprise the smell is still there and the water was full of a disgusting colour (not sure what it was but it wouldn’t show up in a picture). Does this even meet Canadian standards. Also as another poster noted the sides are plywood and not good. Bottom line is I will be returning it, will not buy again AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Wish there was a minus star category.

Size: The bread slicer is large enough to accommodate the 2 lb. loaves from my Cuisinart Convection Bread maker which are 7" tall and 5" wide.Preventing Damage: As another Reviewer suggested, I put a thin silicone mat on the bottom to stop cutting through the base. I have used the bread slicer four times and haven't cut into the side pieces yet.Cutting Slices: If I want the entire loaf to be cut into the same width slices, I need to cut four slices, remove them and then move the loaf into the same spot on the bread slicer. It would be nice if either would be have the same width spaces for the entire length of the side slats so you could skip one if you wanted thicker slices or to have a thick set of side pieces and a thin set of side pieces. As other Reviewers have said, I have to span my hand across the top to keep the bread slicer steady to cut even slices.Storage: The side pieces and the end pieces are adjustable and store in the base. To store, I put the entire bread slicer in a Ziplock bag so I don't inadvertently pick it up and have those pieces slide out of the one end of the base where they are stored.

I have not used this product a lot, maybe 15 -20 loaves sliced thus far. Last night I sliced up 5 loaves in a row and noted in the crumb pile several bamboo slivers. They were like little sharp needles that if unnoticed and swallowed could lead to a trip to Emergency.

The slicer works okay, but in the end it is easier and faster to forget about it and just slice the bread with a bread knife. That being said, it works well for my daughter who struggles to get an even thickness when she slices bread without a guide. One nice feature is the way it folds up and takes very little room on the counter top.

Iike this slicer for the most part it works, I just don’t like the thin slice side of the unit, it would be better if it only sliced thick slices, but I guess you can’t please everyone, I need to keep taking the unit apart and flipping my breath around to get the thick slices. Otherwise the rest of the unit as well put together.
