Based on an old Cornish legend, The Mousehole Cat tells the story of Tom Bawcock through the eyes of his cat, Mowzer. One winter, the Great Storm-Cat comes snarling and leaping at the harbour walls so that no boat can go out to fish. When all the food in the village is gone, Tom decides he must brave the terrible weather. As they sail into the mountainous seas, Mowzer sings a lullaby to calm the Great Storm-Cat of the sea. Tom catches enough fish to feed the entire village. And to this day the people of Mousehole hold a procession and feast every Christmas in memory of brave Tom Bawcock. * Narration by Siân Phillips * Directed by Catherine Collis * Music by Ian Hughes * Adapted from the picture book by Antonia Barber and Nicola Bayley * Animation Producer and Editor: Max Whitby * Art Director: Chris Prior * Adapted and Produced by Joy Whitby Special Feature: "The Making of the Mousehole Cat" This mini documentary features Antonia Barber and Nicola Bayley. It explains how the book came to be written and illustrated and shows how the original illustrations were brought to life by computer animation.

Great Movie for the Holidays or Anytime
The story of the heartwarming legend of the Mousehole Cat and Old Tom is told by the wonderful Sian Phillips. It has beautiful illustrations that move, accompanied by some sound effects. You don't miss animation. It includes the Christmas festivities in the actual village. Great story to share with loved ones.

Good movie, great condition
I remember watching this movie with my mom when I was younger. I bought it mainly for nostalgic reasons. It is a short movie and it includes a cool bonus where the directors talk about how it was first a kids book and how they animated the beautiful illustrations! No shipping damage to the case at all.

I am so pleased to have found this on amazon instant video. Holiday classic that I watched every year on vhs and then dvd and now I can stream it on our smart tv! I'd like to make another Christmas wish...better make that three! I wish that amazon would offer Raymond Briggs' The Snowman and The Snowman and The Snowdog and Father Christmas on instant video in time for Christmas next year!! I'd love to be able to add those to our amazon video library!

The Mousehole Cat
This is one of my family's favorite Christmas traditions. We watch it every Christmas morning after seeing it many years ago on PBS. The illustrations in the film and the beautiful relationship that Mowzer has with Old Tom is so sweet and what a wonderful community they had. The Storm Cat is amazing. It's a very heartwarming movie for people of any age! So well done - it really makes you want to be at the festival that is shown at the end of the film to try some Starry Gazey pie!

Beautiful & Touching Christmas Tale (Tail?)
This DVD, based on the book about a traditional tale of a fisherman and his cat, is very special. Sian (pronounced Sean) Phillips (Livia in I, Claudius I, Claudius (35th Anniversary Edition) tells the story of a severe winter along the Cornwall seacoast and how Tom and his cat, Mowzer, set out to break a famine by challenging the Great Storm Cat to bring in a catch of fish for Christmas. The book is hard to find, but the film contains all the original art plus illustrates a few extra scenes.

Charming production of an original, delightful tale of the sea and a cat
Delightful, clever story and original artwork is well adapted for video. Sound of the cat singing is superbly, charmingly done and the reason I bought the video after viewing a library copy. Absolutely enchanting. Very nice educational touch to have a short video of the actual town and residents of Mousehole and the several local dishes that are served in the story.

Absolutely wonderful!
Just looked at it for at least the 10th time with my adult daughter and we watched it twice. The simplicity, beauty of illustrations and the story are breathtaking!! I love Mawser and Tom and all the people of Mousehole. And I am almost 70 years young!

Brilliant Film, Badly Compressed Copy
This film is a true hidden gem. However, in regard to the DVD edition sold in North America, it is sadly still very much in hiding. The DVD I received contains a version of the film that is a such a badly compressed, low grade copy, it might as well have been recorded on VHS and then downloaded back in the 1990s.If you live in North America and would like a copy of this wonderful little film, this low grade DVD is probably your only option, but be prepared for a less than stellar rendition. If, however, a properly remastered edition becomes available in the future, I will be among the first to place an order for it.

Amazing film!
I love this film to bits! I remember I used to watch this at Christmastime when it came on television. When the station it aired on every year stopped airing it, I was truly disappointed to no longer e able to watch this amazing piece of artistry and storytelling. Now that I have it on dvd, I can watch it whenever I please and I can share it with my family as well! It's a true delight to watch!
