Awful for retro games, acceptable (but not great) for modern ones

Yeah, listen to the reviews. The D-pad is awful - it FEELS fine, but if your thumb shifts even a tiny bit, you'll start moving in a different direction. Fine if you're playing a game with analog sticks, but absolutely infuriating for retro games (especially the ones that require fast, precise movements, as retro games often do). I bought it solely to play older games with on a softmodded original Wii, and for that purpose I'd give it a one (note that the original Wii's homebrew doesn't recognize aspects of the controller, only recognizing it in Wiimote mode, which renders some of its buttons useless, but obviously that's not on InterWorks, I'm just mentioning it for anyone else who might want it for that), but I realize that's not what everyone wants it for. It's... fine for playing non-retro games, but even then, the battery life is pretty bad, needing a charge about once a day with regular use, and the analog sticks feel a little cheap and too plastic-y.$40 is wayyyyy too much for something like this; the fact that it's $70 as of this review is laughable. Do not spend seventy dollars on this, you'll be mad.

Garbage

Seriously? The analog sticks hardly work and this was pushed as a Wii compatible controller. It doesn't work for any Wii games as the Wiimote and/or Nunchuck. The motion sensor doesn't work and the D-Pad is either touchy or non-responsive.Construction, this thing is awesome. It looks great but application wise, this thing is a mess.

It's a great gamepad FOR WHAT IT IS PEOPLE!!

Overall, this gamepad has a real great feel to it. Please note that I do not own a Wii U, just a Wii.I saw this gamepad, and nostalgia hit my heart. I nearly cried for joy. The built is excellent. The SNES style buttons are really great and feel like the real thing. And its rechargeable!I do have a couple of bones to pick with this thing, and I really didn't want to because of how great this thing is. First off, the analog sticks are a little too sensitive. And this can be a pain when it comes to precise movements or when I'm trying to walk rather than run, like in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And when I'm running it on my Android device on an emulator like SNES9x EX+, the shoulder buttons aren't recognized and I played around with the settings, but not luck.Other than the cons of this controller, I do love it and I highly recommend it. Just don't go buying it thinking that it is a Wii U Pro Controller. It is as it is stated to be: a Wiimote + Classic Controller Pro + SNES style, that just happens to work on the Wii U, just not as a Pro Controller. Buy it for what it is, and not for what you it assume it to be, and enjoy a pretty darn good, uncluttered controller for your Wii games :)

An okay option for Nintendo's Controller Mess

This controller is a bit of an odd surprise and I know there is a lot of exposure about it. Since there are a million questions with this controller, I'll start with the basics.Form Factor:This controller is very light (Lighter than Dualshock or Xbox Controller) and slightly lighter the Pro controller. It is also slightly smaller than the very large pro controller and with a rough finish compared to the smooth finish of the Pro.Quality:First impressions say this is a cheaper controller, especially since the Pro controller is rather slick. Immediately you may notice the buttons don't quite sit straight into the face of the controller and wiggle a little bit. Once I started using it the buttons seem to press correctly and with a good response time.Dual Sticks:The sticks are VERY stiff on the one I received. This leads to some directions being easier to push than others which can make playing VERY fiddly. The more I used the controller, the more it loosened up to acceptable levels. I can't say I had any problems with the Pro controller like this out of the box.The biggest difference is the Pro controller sticks do NOT touch the top face of the controller. This leads to quick and smooth circles. The Interworks controller RUBS ON THE FACE causing a friction that I'm not a fan of personally. If you don't understand what I mean, I mean take the sticks and roll them in a circle around the frame. The stem of the stick will rub against the face of the controller. The sticks are also smaller than the pro controller with a similar rubber feel. Depressing the sticks is very clicky and takes some effort to press.D-Pad:The Interworks D-Pad is slightly bigger than the Pro and much looser. It is possible to be pushing left or right and get Up/Down to fire off by accident. This is much more similar to controllers of old.Buttons:The face buttons are set like the old SNES controllers which may bring some smiles back. The X/Y buttons are inset, while the B/A buttons are rounded. When playing in Wiimote mode X/Y are considered 1/2 with A mapping to A. Playing on X/Y was not my favorite and I found no way to change it.Trigger buttons are much stiffer to push than a Pro controller, making them harder to hit accidentially by resting your finger on it.Batteries:Nowhere on the packaging is the battery life displayed. I seem to clock it at 30 hours idle and 15 of usage before I see blinking red lights. Your mileage may vary.Special Buttons:Interworks is equipped with a few unique buttons. An old school Select/Start sits between the D-Pad and face buttons that are mapped directly to the +/- buttons. Just in case those don't work or you refuse to associate +/- with start select, you can find the +/- and home buttons on the top of the controller in a typical format. The back of the controller has four special buttons:Sync: Easier to press than the Pro controller but will sync instantly with the Wii U by following standard sync instructions.Reset: Requires a very small and long pin to push. This it used when the controller just needs to lose its mind and start over.Mode: This is the most important switch. Going back and forth between Wii-mote mode and Classic (Pro) mode will allow you to control any game.Tilt Sensor: Allows you to switch how the tilt sensor works into vertical or horizontal modeIR Sensor:The top has a typical laser for the sensor to pickup. I must say this is NOT Wii Motion Plus quality. It is very floaty, but is perfect for games that just need menu selections done with a wiimote.Oddities:- Power switch does not turn the Wii U OFF. It shuts itself off. It does however turn the Wii U ON.- Even when the controller is in Classic mode the Wii-like IR sensor is STILL ACTIVE. This can be annoying in a game like Wheel of Fortune where the Dpad and remote can fight each other for control- I had the controller stay ON even AFTER the Wii U was left on. There was NO way to turn it off without resetting it. When it got stuck like this it would not respond until I reset.Compatibility:Wheel of Fortune: Set in Wii-Mote mode and was able to do all functions. Both the IR sensor and the buttons worked like the WiimoteNew Super Mario Bros U: Set in Wii-Mote Mode and was able to do all functions.Call of Duty Black Ops: Set in Classic (Pro) mode. Was able to do all functions and play as designedZombieU: Set in Classic (Pro) mode. Was able to play Multiplayer against the Zombie King just fine.Paper Mario (N64): Set in Classic Mode. Was able to play just like a classic controllerSuper Smash Bros Brawl (Wii): Set in Classic Mode. Was able to play just like a classic controller.Any game that requires a wii/nunchuck to play such as Zelda or Metroid are NOT worth playing on this controller. Having an IR sensor in the MIDDLE of the controller while trying to do the special movements required is not possible on this setup. This controller is NOT a substitute for that setup.Final thoughts:Will this be a controller you take to tournaments? Not recommended. Is it a replacement for a Wiimote/Nunchuck for games that require it as a base experience? Not unless you really want to have issues playing. Is it a cheap alternative to the Pro/Classic/Sideways Wiimote Controller? Absolutely. This is a cheap controller that helps simplify the hassel of keeping track of all the randomness Nintendo has tossed at us. If you don't need the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo, then this controller has you covered.
