Best multi-tool I ever owned
Best multi-tool I ever owned. Never leaves my side when I'm out working. Despite near daily use/abuse since purchase, still in excellent condition.Do yourself a favor: If you're reading through multi-tool reviews, trying to decide whether this one is the one to get...just stop reading and click "buy." You'll thank me later. If you need details, here you go:The knife blades stay razor sharp for a long, LONG time and are accessible without having to open the entire tool. The pliers grip really well and don't break easily like those made by names that remind you of baby food (snicker). The files do the job and don't wear down like you were using sandpaper...like those baby food ones. The saw blade is actually useful and will cut those stray thin branches like butter.Great pair of scissors which are fairly sharp and even cut through cardboard.Have opened more cans/bottles with the opener than I can count.Screwdrivers are all very useful. And, lastly...the leather sheath that comes with it. Why mention that as part of the tool review at all? Because it's just...great. Seriously! It's made of thick, durable leather and really holds up to abuse. We're not talking some flimsy nylon thing that will rip off your belt after a few tugs. This thing will probably outlast your belt, pants, and maybe even YOU. And it does a fine job of keeping the tool securely on YOUR person...because once you get it, you're not going to want to lose it.

Used almost daily
I work in a warehouse setting so I use mine practically daily. Had it for years and blade edges held pretty good. But now I run it thru the old sharpener every now and then, which takes a minute. Still works great. I'd actually say it's gotten better over time. Probably because I've used it so much and gotten used to it. But with use, the pliers aren't so stiff as when they were new, which is nice. Having pliers has really saved the day more than once - doesn't matter if it's not spring loaded, can easily use one handed. And the one handed opening of both blades is nice. The locked and easy release blades are great. And the WAVE is the perfect size - not too big, not too small, just right, as goldilocks might say. The snap button leather pouch that mine came with is awesome. Do yourself a favor, it's the perfect EDC.

Bought the Wave for the outdoors, but it shines at work
I needed a new multitool to replace one that was confiscated by the TSA (long story, but for the record I am NOT a terrorist). I did a lot of research and picked the Leatherman Wave as the perfect mix of reliability and variety of tools. I've only ever thought a multitool for hiking, camping, outdoors, etc. but when I went on a business trip to help move one of our offices I threw it in my luggage almost as an afterthought. It turned out to be the best decision I made. I used the Wave constantly. To have a knife, screwdriver set, pliers, cutters, scissors in my pocket was enormously convenient. Not to mention that I beat the hell out of it and it still looked brand new. Outstanding. Not cheap but you get a lot of bang for the buck.If I had to say anything negative about the Wave it would be that it does not have an awl. One of the tools is a large flat head screwdriver which is somewhat redundant since you already have a bit with a medium sized flat head - this could easily have been replaced by an awl. I have seen people on the internet who have taken a screwdriver bit for the Wave and went into the machine shop and filed the bit down into an awl. Very cool but way beyond me. But if Leatherman made their own awl bit I would buy it in a second.

I like it
Comes in real handy. I use it everyday. Seems very durable. I use the optional pocket clip that you buy separately - works great...I don't like to carry on my belt - sheath doesn't actually fit all that well, though I suppose it would loosen up if I used it. Slightly heavy and bulky for pocket carry, but I've always had a knife there so not a whole lot different than what I'm used to. There is no bottle opener, as stated in the description - it is a CAN OPENER, and actually does not work real well for bottles - cuts through the cap.**Update - about a month after I bought this, I got caught in a rainstorm with the Wave in my pocket and got totally drenched. A day later, I noticed some VERY SMALL rust spots on the blades and some of the tools. I hosed it down with WD-40 and polished it away with some steel wool. I normally keep my tools clean, but had not yet gone over this one and oiled it. I have since had it submerged in a sink full of water and used it to clean game with no further issues. This is not a complaint, and I will not trade it in, just getting the word out. The blades stay sharp for a decent length, and they are easy to put an edge back on. I also have come to appreciate that they are on the outside of the tool and I can access them without opening the pliers. I do wish it had a real solid Phillips screwdriver instead of the bit driver piece of crap. Yes, it adds versatility, but I will go get my toolbox if I need that much versatility.

Another Great Product From Leatherman
I have used Leatherman tools for 5 plus years. I bought the Wave to upgrade from the Sideclip. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Sideclip other than day-to-day wear. Unfortunatly it was obsolete and had to get something newer. As a scout leader and a manufacturing engineer, I use my Leatherman everyday. After watching two survival videos from leading experts, I purchased the Wave per their recomendation. Not only are all to tools locking, the external blades can be unfolded, locked, unlocked, and stowed with one hand. I bought the clip with it, which is exceptionally easy to install and remove if needed in seconds. It keeps the tool at easy grasp inside a pocket and does not attract attention. (The pouch gets in the way when climbing in and out of hydraulic cabinets as well as when manuevering through the brush looking for downed deer.) Quality for me is absolutely critical, and this item is ALL quality. Sharp knives, clean edges, easy to handle. I have already shown it to a lot of my co-workers and they are going to order theirs soon!!
