Very powerful, but difficult lid, and where is this company?
I used a good old KitchenAid blender for at least 20 years—and for all of those years, fought with it to get it to blend anything thicker than Jello. This thing, though, has plenty of power—in fact, I over-blended some gazpacho because it worked so quickly. So, power is certainly not a problem here. It has a very large capacity, too—probably 1.5 to 2 times the KitchenAid’s.Things I don’t like about it: The container is plastic, which is fine, but the lid is rubber, and to secure it, you push it into the plastic container. It’s a little more effort to attach and detach than the old KitchenAid’s top, which screwed on. The small “measuring cap” in the lid screws into the lid, but again, because the lid is rubber, it takes two hands to screw it in. The handle is huge, but it does help you raise the container securely. The blend mode preset buttons are a little funky, but once you figure them out, they’re pretty easy to use. A dial on the left chooses whether you’re in manual mode—low speed to super speed—or whether you’re in program mode. The program mode (also serves as “off”) lets you use one of the four program buttons on the right side of the motor—smoothie, soup, dips/spreads, or pulse. The buttons make the blender vary its speeds—for example, in soup mode, it cycles between low and high. The other thing I worry about is that this is a relatively unknown brand. I’d never heard of it, and that’s fine, but I can’t find the company’s website. The manual cites an “icucinakitchen.com” site for customer service/warranty/parts requests, but the website doesn’t come up. If you’re going to sell a blender at near-Vitamix prices, you really need a better web presence. If I drop the container and crack it, I’m betting that the whole thing becomes a counter decoration.

A refined blender with high power, high capacity and good control
Having used a few other blenders in the past, I’ve always been bothered by the small bottles, having not enough power when I needed it, or having too much power when I wanted it to operate quietly. This blender addresses all of those issues at a reasonable price and with good design. Before plugging the blender in, I discovered 1 plug on the power cord arrived bent. I used my finger to pry it to unbend it, could just be shipping issues.Use is quite simple: plug in, press power button on back, turn dial to directly set power. You can also turn the dial the other way to use the preprogrammed functions. The location of the power button is not intuitively obvious, anyone who uses this blender should be informed of the location to minimize frustration.Plugging in a power meter, I measured the power consumption at various dial settings (not an exhaustive list) : 90W minimum, 120W, 500W medium, 1020W max. Not sure what is preventing the blender from doing 1500W, but 1000W is plenty of power for the vast majority of foods.I like that the low power setting is almost completely silent, allowing you to do low intensity blenders without waking up the whole house. The lower power settings also reduce the chance of tripping a breaker on homes with weaker electrical systems. Even at the highest power it doesn’t feel so loud that I need ear protection, although running it on high will generate some heat that warms up the blended food. The blender is quite stable. It is well secured on the base perfectly and shows absolutely no signs of falling off, even at high power. So you do not need to hold down the bottle when blending.I used this to blend powdered meals, it yielded smooth and consistent results with minimal clumped and unblended residue.Even with 1 qt of contents at 1000W for a few seconds, the splash upwards is minimal – the underside of the cap received some dropletsThe cap is secure yet easy to plug in and peel off to attach/remove. A smaller twist lid is integrated to provide quick access for adding ingredients. The outer lid and twist lid completely covers the lid area, unlike some blender caps that have gaps for whatever reason. The lid is splash proof but not water tight – liquid will leak out if you invert the container. The bottle is big enough that most parts can be accessed for cleaning. It is easy to remove residue and inspect the transparent bottle for missed areas. The blade assembly should be removable for cleaning like most blenders, although it is screwed on tight. In summary, if you want a high capacity, user friendly blender and a large degree of control over its speed, this is an excellent choice!

Smoother smoothies
My son used this before I did, and the first thing he said was, "Wow. My smoothies are a lot smoother now." I never knew that was a problem before, but evidently it was. This is a really great blender. We got this to replace our last one that was actually pretty nice, but the jar on our old one was glass and the spout had chipped and it was dangerous.I love how big and substantial the jar is. I cook pureed soups probably twice a month during the cooler fall-spring months and I always have to use an immersion hand blender because there's too much volume to fit in a smaller blender. I can fit a whole batch into this one though. Plus it's a lot easier to get my hand and a rubber spatula into this one because the jar is wider. The controls are simple and intuitive BUT... (there's always a but) ...BUT you have to watch out for the little reset switch on the rear of the motor because it won't run unless you pop that little switch in.This blender is pretty loud. It's as loud as the ones you see in a smoothie shop with the safety hood over them. I assume those hoods are supposed to muffle some of the sound and protect against catastrophic splatters if the lid comes off. We obviously don't have one of those in our home. And while this beefy motor is a lot louder than our last umpteen blenders, the action of the blade is actually quieter. It's a blender though, and they're always loud. It's not like one of us is sneaking downstairs at night to whip up some midnight daiquiris or margaritas. The controls are sensible and functional, the huge motor is substantial, and most notable of all, the actual blending action of the blade is way better than any blenders we've owned before. So yes, our smoothies are smoother.
