Waring v. Vitamix v. Blendtec
I did a TON of research on Vitamix, Blendtec, and Waring blenders. We wanted a high power blender to make smoothies, nut butters, and mixed drinks. This led me to the Waring and I have been extremely happy so far. Here are my thoughts:Waring - Powerful blender with simple(unlikely to fail) paddle controls. No need to use a tamping stick, this blender annihilates everything you put into it. The wide bottomed container makes it easy for all food to reach the blades, we blended hummus(thick) and it flowed like water up the sides and down the middle to the blades in a nice vortex action.Vitamix - Powerful blender with various control options, but you must use tamping stick for everything because the narrow bottomed jar does not allow contents to naturally fall down to the blade. Also, the Vitamix is overpriced due to it's overly-marketed name.Blendtec - Powerful blender with equivalent performance to the Waring, but the higher likelihood of failure on the electronic controls is a drawback. Price is higher than the waring.Overall thoughts: Waring is a commercial brand name that has survived in the restaurant industry since the 1950's. Because they are not overly-marketed, the price is kept low and they have developed a durable and quality product at a very good price point. Beware that any of these blenders is large(waring and vitamix are equal height). The 64 oz containers are tall and may not fit under your cabinets when on the base. Ours just barely slides back under the cabinet with the lid off (we put it behind the container when not in use). This is the best video out there that does an equal comparison of Vitamix, Waring, Blendtec, and JTC blenders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej048qZNxpk SPOILER ALERT: WARING WINS!!

Needs Cleaning
Our first Waring blender, the 3 hp model, began to leak after a few years of use. There's a gasket at the bottom of the jar, or clear plastic container, that apparently can erode then leak. The cost of replacing it and/or getting it fixed wasn't far away from the cost of a new blender -- special tools are needed to take it apart and what would otherwise be a simple job (replacing a gasket) proves impossible without being able to take it apart. So, reluctantly, we purchased this blender. It's amazing to see it work. We've owned a Vitamix and seen other blenders in action -- this is far and away the best of the best. Having dealt with the leak, we're cleaning this one in accordance with the instructions, something we did not do with our older model. After each use, they say to use hot water, fill to a line on the jar, use a small amount of non-sudsing soap, then run for 2 minutes on high. They also say to not use the clear plastic top -- just the black rubber part -- to prevent expansion problems. This results in soap and water exploding all over the area. What a mess! You can solve this problem simply by placing a damp washcloth over the rubber cap. This allows air to escape, but prevents soapy water from leaping out. Do the same for the rinsing. I'm hopeful that cleaning by the directions will allow us to use the blender much longer than we were able to use our previous version.

Wow! This is a GREAT blender!!
This is fantastic!! I actually bought this two speed model and then found the variable speed model for only $22 more so I sent this back and got the variable speed model. This has a 3.5 motor, which I believe may be the most powerful of all blenders. It will turn a full container of ice cubes into snow in about three seconds. No exaggeration. I've made soups and smoothies and it handles them with ease. In tests against the Vitamix it blends into a smoother consistency. (I did my homework). Also, the only time I have had to use any sort of 'tamper' to push the ingredients down towards the blades is when there was not enough liquid. The blades really do a great job at sucking the food down and grinding it without much, if any, delay or getting hung up. Can't say enough good things about this blender. Cheaper than the other big name brands and won the side by side comparison with all of them. I also forgot to mention previously that this is a heavy blender and it has rubber type feet that really grip the counter tile and it stays put. Also, while it has a plastic container, (I think Vitamix and Blendtech also have plastic), I have blended hot soups in it and there's not a problem.

Pray nothing goes wrong...
At first, this is a great blender. It's powerful! We actually have two. The first one was great, the second... not so much. After a few washes in the dishwasher, the metal connections at the base began to flake apart! Ok, this was clearly an unusual circumstance, so we reached out to customer service, assuming we just had a defective container. After two emails and four phone calls, what did they do? NOTHING. Their customer service is non-existent. So if you get a unit that isn't defective, I promise you'll be happy. But if they're running a 50% average like they did for us, then good luck... I hope they'll respond to you because they sure didn't respond to us.
